Optimism Is Gone

honestly many of those years our running game was far better than it is this year. Yes, our overall production is up, but not all yards are equal. That was also a different time of course. I do think our offense doesn't need major changes with regards to personnel (another WR, but maybe Gettis is that guy) but I feel like we are deliberately leaning on Cam too much.

That's what I'm saying. That was when I really lost it with Chud today. Don't put Cam in that position. We have struggled in the redzone, don't force it... don't keep pulling out your shiny new toy just because you have it. Play that smart and we walk away with points.

WE KNOW CAM IS GOOD. EVERYONE DOES. YOU DON'T HAVE TO PROVE IT ANYMORE.

It's okay to run.

It seems we left the conservative run extreme of Foxy and went to the pass happy extreme of Chud... In case people haven't realized yet, extremes aren't good.

Until we can play defense it doesn't matter what Cam does.

Not trying to be a dick here, but now do you understand why so many people wanted to bolster the Dline at the top of the draft?

Cam has played well, but it doesn't matter.

No matter how much the league changes, it always stays the same.

Not true... Defenses no longer win championships, QB's do.

Its a passing (scoring) league.... You have to have a QB who can do it all, and we do.

Cam is learning, but is already capable of taking over games on his own. Once he understands this offense better, understand defenses better, and knows how to handle the ball without giving it up, we will be lights out.

No MATTER how bad our defense is.

Ask New England..

Rivera needs to do something with this defense. I don't know if he needs to look at personel and change things up in the front four (namely DTs) or or just take over the playcalling duties from Sean McDermott but that unit is killing us week in and week out. Its not just missed tackles either...If these teams wanted to run a sweep to the right on us every play they could and would pick up 10 yards every time. We are just atrocious at penetration (other than Hardy and Johnson) and pursuit. It is just disgusting to watch.

The thing that makes it even worse is that we have a ROOKIE QB and a whole squad of new faces on offense that are doing their best to keep us in games. Its typically a given that a rookie QB is going to throw some INTS and make some mistakes. The rest of the team is supposed to pick him up and make up for those mistakes. For us its the other way around.

or we just continue to ignore the same positions like DT and WR.

.

It is not that the Panthers ignore these two positions, it's just that suck at evaluating them it seems.

DT = Jenkins, drafted by Siefert

WR = Steve Smith, drafted by Siefert

That is how long it has been since there has been impact players at those two positions.

10 years is a very long time.

Team took a step back today. Let's see how they do at home the next 3 weeks; I suspect we already know the answer but, hey, 'any given sunday' right?

Difference is, you don't find franchise QBs in the free agent market. You can only get them in the draft.

Changed your name but keep beating the troll drum... DT could've been addressed in FA.

Well, now we're forced to look for TD's replacement, because even if we keep him, we don't know how he'll hold up. On top of that... After this year, I don't want to see Connor on the field again unless it's ST.

We all had him extremely overrated until he saw extended action.

LB and DT are the huge needs in the offseason whether all of those guys come back healthy or not.

    • So the last guy who had the job got hired by his former team directly into a role he has no direct experience in?
    • Hard to pass up millions for a couple of days work per week for a coaching gig in the NFL that is 60-80 hours each week during the season and a more relaxed 50 hours a week during the off season. Yeah, I'd love to see him as our DC but hard to see him giving up the cushy job there if he gets it. And he's going to be a great commentator for the network.
    • Really, I think that is where negotiations come in. If you've got a QB getting you to 10 wins but statistically he's not a great performer, then you say look you can take $22 million or you can try it on the market. Because let's face it, out there, any leadership skills that we're seeing aren't going to be on the table, it's just going to be performance and that lands him in the QB2 market, which is much, much less lucrative (although any of us would love that money).  No one is saying that Bryce will be a $50 million QB, barring something short of a miraculous jump. I'm just saying that if we are winning somehow with him at the helm, then it would be fuging stupid to dive back into the rookie pool all over again. Let's say we do hit the 10 win mark, heck, let's call it 11 and a second round in the playoffs. I think we can all say that would be a really uplifting result and one that should be doable if we have good play. What do we do then? Here's what I would offer if I were Morgan and Tepper. $25 million a year for 3 years, each year with up to $10 million in incentives for touchdowns, wins, playoff depth, being under 10 interceptions, completing a full season, passing yardage milestones, taking less than 15 sacks. Look, Bryce isn't a Ferrari, he isn't a Corvette, or a mid-level BMW. He's probably a new Toyota Sienna that will definitely get you somewhere and bring the whole team along with it, no fuss but not a lot of pizazz.  And really, it's about the destination, not about what drove you there.
