Optimism Is Gone

The defense is very soft for sure and there is 2 reasons why Cam is slowing down as well. First, the teams are game planing for Cam much better. Second, Cam's not a accurate passer and its starting to show. Unless he can find a way to become more accurate with the ball in the future, all the talk about how he is gonna be the next elite QB will be out the window.

There's no need to even be optimistic.

All you need to be is realistic to know that the future is bright for this team. You don't go from the worst in the league to one of the best teams in the league in under a year. People forget that in 2002 we had gut wrenching losses like crazy, similar to this season.

The wins are on their way and they're going to be coming a lot. But this season is all about growing pains.

This season has always been about rebuilding and getting the young players some experience. This year has NEVER been about making the playoffs.

Rome wasn't built in a day, neither were the Patriots, Steelers, Saints, or Packers. It is a process that takes time. The children on this board just have no patience.

took some of you a while, but welcome to reality.

i had a lot of hope after our first couple games but reality set in pretty quick after that. we just aren't a complete team.

i think the worst part is it actually feels like we're getting worse. undoubtedly injuries have a lot to do with that on defense and tape on Cam has to do with it on offense, but blah.

It only feels like we are getting worse because most other teams are getting better while we are not. Give me crap but I think our coaching staff is in over their heads.

If your optimism is gone it is because you have totally unrealistic expectations to begin with. We are ahead of schedule on offense and a little behind on defense largely due to injuries and backups needing work.

I thought we would be 2-6 at the break and think that is exactly where we will be. Nothing has changed here but people unrealistic expectations are being tempered. Newton is not good enough to engineer multiple fourth quarter wins and the defense isn't good enough to make early leads hold up. Most games are won in the fourth quarter and that is not where we have done well. We need work and more time. Anyone who thought we would have a winning record or even close at this point is an idiot.

Jesus Christ.....I have never seen so many whiney little bitches in one place in my life.

You people sound like a bunch of 12 yo girls.

fixed

I think these suicidal fans need something in their life to live for other than the NFL.

I'm sorry if you guys are cool with losing and aren't as passionate about the team that I pull for. If you don't care either way then why even watch or follow this team?

Sorry, I wear my emotions on my sleeve (even on the internet) and I want to win.

If you don't like it you're free to move onto one of several other sh*tty threads to talk about how bad they are.

Except that this team was hardly the wost in the league last year. Our record says we were, but we know better. We went from playoff team in 2009 to worst in 2010, and most of that had to do with coaching and QB issue.

That's like saying we're one of the worst teams in the league right now. I really don't think we are.

Playoff team in 2009? Far from it. We had major issues and that disappointing season was the final straw for Fox. It's true that we really didn't even try in 2010. The talent is better than the worst team in the league, but the product on the field certainly said we were the worst team. And we earned the worst record to support that.

Of course we aren't the worst team in the league this year. Our record looks much worse that it is. If you see a 1-5 team you would think you're looking at a lifeless team that isn't threatening at all and has no chance to beat you. That's not true of us. We've been in every game and have played great competition. But we haven't learned how to finish yet and that's why we're having growing pains. Last year we were a lifeless, pathetic team. This year we aren't. But it's not like you can just flip a switch and start winning. We have brand new coaches and players. It's gonna take time...

    • So the last guy who had the job got hired by his former team directly into a role he has no direct experience in?
    • Hard to pass up millions for a couple of days work per week for a coaching gig in the NFL that is 60-80 hours each week during the season and a more relaxed 50 hours a week during the off season. Yeah, I'd love to see him as our DC but hard to see him giving up the cushy job there if he gets it. And he's going to be a great commentator for the network.
    • Really, I think that is where negotiations come in. If you've got a QB getting you to 10 wins but statistically he's not a great performer, then you say look you can take $22 million or you can try it on the market. Because let's face it, out there, any leadership skills that we're seeing aren't going to be on the table, it's just going to be performance and that lands him in the QB2 market, which is much, much less lucrative (although any of us would love that money).  No one is saying that Bryce will be a $50 million QB, barring something short of a miraculous jump. I'm just saying that if we are winning somehow with him at the helm, then it would be fuging stupid to dive back into the rookie pool all over again. Let's say we do hit the 10 win mark, heck, let's call it 11 and a second round in the playoffs. I think we can all say that would be a really uplifting result and one that should be doable if we have good play. What do we do then? Here's what I would offer if I were Morgan and Tepper. $25 million a year for 3 years, each year with up to $10 million in incentives for touchdowns, wins, playoff depth, being under 10 interceptions, completing a full season, passing yardage milestones, taking less than 15 sacks. Look, Bryce isn't a Ferrari, he isn't a Corvette, or a mid-level BMW. He's probably a new Toyota Sienna that will definitely get you somewhere and bring the whole team along with it, no fuss but not a lot of pizazz.  And really, it's about the destination, not about what drove you there.
