The Walking Dead on AMC

lemme tell you guys what walking dead is and is not about

it isn't about the endless chase for some stupid plot device like a cure or a safe haven. its not about rambo killing millions of zombies. its not about hope, or tomorrow or even the past.

its a modern tale of job without the godjob at the end. its about a good, decent man, an officer of the law, one of the best of us, a normal guy that is willing to do the right thing regardless of the personal sacrifices and consequences, and what he becomes when everything is slowly stripped away from him in this new world where he really has no place in the new society. how much can rick endure before he becomes something worse than shane?

so you can go ahead and wipe away those silly dreams of all the zombie films you've ever seen where the two young lovers get away in an airplane at the end, it just ain't gonna ever happen. and if that's what you need from television, is something that's wrapped up in a nice little bow and delivered on a tray beside a bowl of chicken soup, then you're watching the wrong show.

this is more like the original night of the living dead, where you survive the night only to be shot in the brain by another living human.

that's what this is about. cutting off someone's hand, a good person's hand that you've survived with since the beginning because they won't let go of you while they're being dragged down by a horde of dead people

Oh i get the character part. I have not read the novel nor do i want to to be as surprised as possible. I also like unhollywood endings and this is going that way. Once more of the cat is fuly out of the bag i wonder if the audience can stay. This is classic Greek tragedy where you know way in advance the end. Awesome show.

It already has a huge fanbase and imo it has already been pretty great drama wise. The only time I didn't like it was those few episodes in the first half of season 2 where the Sophia bullpoo drug on. But after reading the comics I get that they needed some filler since they were only at the farm for like 3 issues of the comic and a whole season of the show.

I think this has already became the definitive zombie movie/series. The bar has been set pretty high in the past but this exceeds it greatly.

the sophia drag out didn't bother me nearly as bad as the first season finale

that was on par with lost or some sci-fi show

    • "by name"?  You mean they are letting him say he is retiring or stepping down? That's even more embarrassing than being fired (he basically quit) and so transparently false that the media will kill him and this university.  If this happens, I may just turn full fledge to an SMU fan since I live in Dallas now. I'm just about sick of this university's approach to basketball and football.
