Newton the Passer vs Newton the Runner

QBs slide when b/c they know they can't beat a defender.....

If Cam is in the open field or at a goalline....realistically....why should he slide much? Cam can beat just about anyone one on one....then on to the next. He seems to have a good feel of when to go down.

Yeah and so do some of our O-men though...like Bell:(

He's really been more in danger in the pocket last week than on the run.

I missed preseason whatever. That's cool. I'd like to see a highlight of that.

yeah, like panthers55 says....I think Cam has a bigger risk of injury in the pocket than running.

Hits like Orakpo put on him are the danger...when he is running he knows where the hit is coming from.

good point.

you look at vick's injuries this year and they came from being in the pocket.

that's a huge reason why getting a RT needs to be a top priority in the offseason. blind side needs protected and i don't trust anyone we have to do it. bell is a good backup. otah is broken and doesn't care. if he gets hurt, it's going to be because we were lax there. someone is going to get burned or pushed back and rolled into cam's leg.

I still don't think Carolina fans really understand how destructive he can be as a runner......I think he will break it out in full effect at least once this year. With the vertical scheme we are running....Cam could literally freelance it into the Cam show if he wanted one week (he really just doesn't seem to want to run......which is good....but at least one game where he went off would be HIGHLY entertaining)

Yes,!! I agree! I feel he has not had his breakout game yet this season

Wouldn't that technically be metaphor?

Just more evidence he's a racist....bet if Cam was white, he'd have called it a metaphor. Cam only deserves a simile...because he wants him to be like the white man. He can't be just as good but different. He's gotta be "assimilated" to the white man's standards.

LOL. Just a matter of time ;)

You don't think they're stereotyping this kid? There was never any evidence that he was a run first QB. In fact, when he was being recruited out of HS, the knock on him was that he didn't run enough and at Auburn most of his runs were called by his coach. Cam Newton was always looking to throw the ball first when he was scrambling to buy time. People were just assuming that he was a run first QB just because he had the ability to do it.

I would love to see it eventually. I would absolutely LOVE to see Cam break Vick's 178 yard single game QB rushing record. 200+, let's do it.

The shoes that Vick wore in that game are actually on display in Canton.

I honestly don't know what to think of that debate. I didn't watch enough of him in college to give you an objective opinion but I will say that sometimes it still appears as if Cam is in fact holding back the run so who knows.

I will say this though. Of course they were stereotyping him but I don't think it was so much based on racism as it is a fact that there has yet to be a black quarterback that can really show laser accurate passing on an elite level and do it consistently year after year.

It's like saying the majority of white guys can't jump as high or dunk as good as black NBA players. It is what it is until proven otherwise, not before. I think until we get to a point where you have 4-5 black QB's in the NFL all as consistently accurate as Rodgers or Brady this will never go away.

But I think overall it's more based on history and precedent than racism if you ask me.

If you were to ask me if there's people that would "hope" he doesn't end up becoming a very accurate passer. In other words do white people and white QB's pride themselves on that and hope to maintain that status quo? Sure. Do black people pride themselves on being able to shake their booty better and being the only ones who can rap? Of course. And Cam's got it pretty damn easy. Take Emminem. Emminem went through the same poo....actually I'd say it was probably 100x worse trying to break into that crowd. Cam has yet to be booed off the field in Charlotte when throwing pics, so guys like Warren Moon needs to shut his trap. It's bitching and moaning over nothing and he sounds retarded.

Do the 1972 Miami Dolphins still pop champagne bottles when no teams go undefeated? Last time I checked they did.

Everyone wants to have their "thing". And it's not racism, it's simply human nature.
