Its not we need to run the ball more. I want to run the ball more efficiently and with more authority.

correcto. the balanced offense is a misnomer.

stats on the surface are for drive thru window workers.

its also WHEN you run the ball. WHERE you run the ball. what down you run the ball. does your yards go up in the 2nd half or DOWN?

Im ready to drop the statistical algorithm football hammer on some of ya's. But you might start bleeding from your ears and you end up at the CVS minit clinc beside Chante.

Exactly.

The term balanced offense DOES NOT mean that you run the ball 50% of the time. It means that you are able to run the ball when you want and need to....and pass the ball when you want and need to.

Being completely one dimensional is still not a good thing.

This team still reminds me A LOT of the Saints team right before they won the SB.....the one that finally found a defense and running game to compliment that passing attack.

the running game is still quietly purring in the garage. Surprisingly teams are still scheming against it for the most part banking on Cam not winning with his arm. So far they are right for the most part in spite of spectacular stats.

There will come a day however when the passing game gets a few more ticks into sync and the defense limits one or two 7's into 3's or Turnovers.

At that point DC's will have to make a choice and if that choice involves moving a guy out of the box, our race cars are ready.

Most people on this board don't realize how close we actually are to having a very solid offense, possibly top 3 in the league if not #1 overall.

If you don't see it, I can't show you, but we are leaps and bounds ahead of where we have been in quite some time already and our ceiling is higher than it has ever been.

And a good way to keep a lead is to run the clock down. You put the points on the baord then you have to stop the other team by A) Defense or B) limiting their offensive touches
yes...that is a way. and it can be a good way, but it is far from risky, although it's considered the more conservative and safe approach. the risk is that your defense doesn't hold in those moments that the other team gets the ball...and they are going to get the ball at some point. things are going to collapse. if you only have a few minutes on the board and you are up by a couple scores...then this is a good time to just keep the ball on the ground and try to control the clock. the rest of the time it's just too easy for the other team to come back.

if you want to win the game, you score more then they can score. your defense has to be just good enough to slow the other team down. if you have the ball, though. goal number one is to score on every drive and you do what you can to do it as quick as you can and as often as you can.

the rules of the game are now set up to favor the offense. you use that to your advantage. you can and should run the ball, but you shouldn't do it just to eat up the clock. you do it the way you should be doing it the rest of the game...taking advantage of a defense that is spread out because they don't want to get beat by your deep passing game and you make sure that you have a run game that can do the job effectively and can get to the second level.

if you try to control the clock, all you do is try to buy yourself time. if you have an offense that can score quickly and frequently and have a defense just good enough to slow the other team down, you will win the game most of the time.

the closer you allow the score to be, the more pressure you put on the defense to shut down the other team's offense. offense helps defense the most by running up the score.

Ya but don't forget you win by having the best pass rating differential not just best passing team. You have to have a defense that can get turnovers and can stop the passing attack if you want to win the games.
totally agreed. your defense has to be just good enough to slow down the other offense and make them less effective than yours.

absolutely. having a killer passing game is going to make a good run game great and it will make a great run game elite. the more we pass the ball, the more yards per attempt we are going to have. a good and respectable red zone and goal line passing game will help the run game in those situations because teams will have much more trouble stopping it and vice versa.

i've got a doctors appointment next week anyway. might as well give them something to do. post them stats.

totally agreed there as well. well said.

i can't wait to see what these guys look like after the bye. i think they'll have a chance to refocus and get things on track. the bye week couldn't have come at a better time, imo. we now have one of the best passing games in the league to go with what has been one of the best run games in the league. we may not see 50/50 between the run game and the passing game, but what we will see is dominant play from both that will be even better next year.
