"That's something that we will address and have conversations about down the road," Hurney said of Davis' contract status. "Thomas is a leader and is a special talent and does everything you ask."

If the Panthers decide not to give Davis the $8 million bonus and he doesn't agree to restructure his current deal he'd become a free agent and would be free to sign with any other team.

That's not what Davis wants.

His goal is to continue to play for the Panthers -- even at a reduced rate.

"My heart is here," Davis said. "There ain't nowhere else I'd rather play. It's the love I have for these guys in the locker room. These are my brothers and I want to go out and compete and fight with them. I feel like we're going to do great things around here and I want to be a part of that.

as long as he agrees to restructure I see no harm in keeping him around

we can't go into 2012 expecting him to be healthy though. backfired this time.

I think 2012 corps will be.

Beason/Anderson/Davis/Thomas Williams/Omar Gaither/Jason Philips/4th or later draft pick.

can't we RFA tag Connor? I can't see them letting him walk in case we need to move Beason to WLB and keep Connor at MLB.

I can't explain the uncontrolled rage I will expel if we draft ANOTHER f*cking linebacker with a top 15 pick.

IDK if I would Rage but if there is a big speedy LB available at where we pick I say we go for it. We really need some bigger LBs if were are going play both 4-3 and 3-4.

    • But it has gotten a little wacky. RBs-https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/contracts/_/position/rb     A couple months ago iggles made Bark the highest guaranteed RB, jeanty was until then. That's what matters the guarantee. A rookie never played a down was the leader, until iggles howie made things right.  If a safety gets drafted in the top 8 or so, he would have the highest money too or very close to it.    Add in TEs and C too.    Even with the fixed %, the numbers are getting too much for a player that's not proven themselves.     Plus anytime a QB is drafted it screws up the contracts for players around and if next year a punter gets drafted at the same 90th spot, they want the same contract with the 5.7% increase. Teams would be laughing.    Its just reached this point. Another 10 years and I bet the vets will be crying.
    • It's 8 million over 4 years.... I'd bend a knee... there are much worse FA contracts being handed out.  Gives teams more incentive to draft well. The Browns and Texans basically screwed the rest of the league.  Someone may want to tell that commie Jimmy Haslam to stop with all this guaranteed money.  If he keeps this up the NFL is going to be screwed.
