Cutler for Romo

Matt Foley

Recommended Posts

Romo has reached his ceiling, IMHO. Denver saves face and gets a QB who can lead them to the playoffs. Dallas, on the other hand, gets a very talented guy who needs a change of address in the worst way. Put Cutler with Dallas' OC and you'd have something special, I think.

Romo has actually proven less than Cutler playoff wise because though Cutler has never played in the playoffs, Romo has not fared particularly well performance wise. And I don't think either of them played all that well in Dec of 2008. Cutler has the arm strength over Romo, though Romo's is pretty good. They are both able to make throws they shouldn't be able to and are athletic. Mental wise, I have doubts about both of them though. And McDaniels will not want another freewheeling guy like Romo IMO.

I'd do this in a heartbeat of I was Jerry Jones, he needs to get fans excited also going into his Billion dollar stadium this season.

Romo has peaked, but is atleast a decent and young replacement for Cutler. I'd ask for Romo and maybe a draft pick for Cutler if I was Denver

I agree with you FB..

Both are very gifted everywhere but the most important place, between the ears. Both have caved when the pressure was on them, I want neither.

However, and this would never happen, but if I was offered Cutler for Romo, if I am the Cowboys I think long and hard about it.

My reasoning, MONEY. Romo signed a huge deal, and Cutler is still on his rookie contract.

Moot now, but I thought this was going to make for an interesting discussion.

In a way they are the same guy: talented, but with issues. Mind you, Romo's problems aren't so much selfish, me-first bad attitude as they are bright lights-big city, Hollywood star, head-up-his-a$$ syndrome. He seems to be more interested in living the lifestyle of being the Cowboys QB than actually working hard to be the best Cowboys QB he can.

The debate would essentially be "which downside do you prefer"? :sosp:

It's even moreso that Romo seems to scoff at the whole fact that he is being questioned about that's being an issue. First there's the whole Cabo before the playoffs disaster. Second, I remember how when BP was in Dallas he handed Romo the 11 QB commandments and the last one is DO NOT BE A CELEBRITY QB. Well they asked Romo about that one last year and I believe he said you can be a celebrity QB if you are good enough. Kind of implying he thought he was...you know...good enough. I think Romo is more salvageable attitude wise than Cutler if only because Romo wasn't some 1st rounder who had a silver spoon from the get go like Cutler. At least you would THINK that would be the case...most longshot guys who end up starting don't act like Romo to begin with. And he also hasn't shown bus throwing under tendencies like Cutler has. You can only be a whiny little bus throwing under bitch and get away with it if you have proven your abilities for more than a year or two (Peyton).

Cutler is a gunslinger......and who said a gunslinger can't be a franchise QB?

Oh, you are right.

In general though, A primarily gunslinger mentality is better than a robotic-"going through the motions" style.

    • I just dont get the worry over losing a practice squad player that just went undrafted. Everyone just made their selections. The chances of a team wanting to sign him to an active roster after not selecting him is very low.  If that interested they would have taken him late to evaluate in person. As far as I can tell two qbs were signed off another teams practice squad last season and they were both going in to their 5th season.
    • I enjoyed reading this thread and the usual banter that follows. The only silver lining I can identify right now is we do actually have a couple of young QB's behind him and we do have a nice roster on both sides of the ball built around the most important position. So if the team overall shows some promise but we still falter largely due to a lack of consistent passing output (again) hopefully the decision makers can be free to make the best decision for the team going forward after the conclusion of this upcoming season.
    • I don't really follow the team anymore due to a variety of reasons and consequently have largely stopped posting but I agree that this is a lovely website and community. This forum probably kept me around for years longer than I would've stuck otherwise because of how difficult it was to stop checking multiple times a day. Especially appreciate how lax the moderation tends to be compared to a lot of places, the crew here does a great job. Out of curiousity I decided to try making a new account (solely for testing purposes) to see what exactly is wrong with the sign up process. The issue seems to be that it never sends you an account verification email, thus making it impossible to complete registration. This is likely something to do with the email server upstream, hope it gets fixed. Also, lol
