Lafell will now start over Naanee

interesting read yesterday from an inferior site...

No need to find a #2 WR, there's already one on the roster

Much has been made this year over the need to find a true #2 WR this offseason whether it be through the draft or free agency, with names such as Justin Blackmon, Alshon Jeffery, Dwayne Bowe, and Vincent Jackson thrown out there as targets to complement, and eventually replace Steve Smith. However after doing some research on AdvancedNFLStats.com (a fine site that you should bookmark if you haven't already) I have deduced that not only do we already have a fine #2 WR on the roster, we have someone that may be able to take the reigns from Smith as a #1 option in the near future. That man is Brandon LaFell.

.

.

.

SR: 60.5%, 8th in the NFL. Jordy Nelson, Colston, Lance Moore Welker, Mike Wallace, Avant, and Kevin Walter are the only WR that rank higher than LaFell.

YPT: 10.6, 7th in the NFL. He's been one of the best deep threats in the game this year. Smith ranked 5th with a 10.8 YPT for comparison's sake.

CR: 70.3%, 10th in the NFL. I believe that speaks for itself. While incompletions are subject to many factors, LaFell has been pulling balls down when they come near him.

SR=success rate (The proportion of plays in which a player was directly involved that would typically be considered successful)

YPT = yards per target

CR = catch rate

sure, he's benefiting from smitty on the other side, but to be fair naanee had smitty on the other side and well....

He is definetly a starting caliber reciever in this league. He hasn't quite shown me enough yet to make me believe he can be an elite number one guy. Certainly hope he can of course. We gave him a lot of heat last year for dropping balls, but he catches just everything thrown his way this year.

Good job, JoJo. Starting spot well earned. Now show us you can earn the title f elite.

his CR is what is getting my attention.

that was the huge knock on him coming out of LSU and in his rookie year.

I hope he pans out as our #2.

Now a #1 he is not.

that was a huge knock on him for most of last year, but towards the end it seemed like he had overcome his small hands issue that so many made such a big deal about (including probably me).

    • Completely agreed.  TBH, we have had so many great players that are in my favorite list, and I hate to narrow it down to one, but Cam is it.  Which is crazy, because you would think it would be more of the guys I grew up watching, but no.  Cam was the single most impactful player to ever out on a football uniform imo.  And like I said in an earlier post, I always felt a kinship with him in a lot of ways…  the way he was treated and judged for the off the field stuff in Florida and having to overcome all of that and fight show at back.  And although I am not a black man, I have always been welcomed by and accepted more by minorities, and thus, I know what it’s like to be judged by appearances rather than the content of your character and who you actually are.  I know what it’s like to be stereotyped and written off or mistreated for your mistakes.  I know what it’s like to be held to a different standard while your peers don’t have to meet that same standard.  So I always related to that.  And the way he came in and just electrified the whole franchise, man…  I still think about it often how much it sucks that because of how talented he was, our staff out so much on him and that ultimately cut his career short.  You’re right, there will never be another Cam…  I think Josh Allen is the closest thing we will see for a long time, but Allen is not the running threat Cam was.  Cam could run you over or around you.  That was THE absolute funnest time to watch our team ever.
    • It definitely needs more specificity than is baked in now.
    • The weirdest encounter I had with a pro athlete was waiting in line at security at Mile High Stadium when I used to get the company suite tickets almost every week because I was the only employee based in Colorado. There's a small checkpoint accessing the suites that virtually no one knows about that you can usually squirt right through. I was standing there and looked over my shoulder and there stands John fuging Elway waiting in line behind me.  This was during the The Golden Calf of Bristol season right before he became GM. I just said "They make YOU go through security?" He's like "Yeah, ain't that a bitch. I literally have a statue out front and I gotta go through security like everybody else." I've heard mixed things about him but he was super nice and down to earth with me that day.
