What part of "we're building through the draft" did you not understand?

While I agree that our primary route to improve the team will be the draft, we are too far behind in talent level (on the D) to rely strictly on the draft. If the team wants to be competitive next year, we are going to have to fill some holes in FA. These don't have to be big names, just players that improve our overall roster and depth.

Every team has, generally speaking, the same number of draft picks. Baring a great draft, you are not going to surpass those teams better than you without also using FA selectively.

shokey and olsen (as well as a good few others) say hi.

draft is the biggest part of it, but they have shown that they are willing to go out via trade or FA to get important parts to the puzzle.

DT is probably the major area that we need to go the vet route.

people wanting desean jackson aren't paying attention.

the dude is an entitled brat. dude feels like the whole world is about him and doesn't care about anyone else but himself. if he doesn't get his way...well...you see what's happening. i don't care about his talent. i don't want that turd anywhere around this team. negatives massively outweigh any positives he might have.

only reason i would want Jackson is just to see smitty give him a good slap in the mouth

People who dont want jackson are the ones not paying attention. When he wants to play dude can ball. He is under paid and extremely so. Bring him in, pay him, make him happy. In 3 years when he starts to bitch ship him out. If you can find an above average smallish wr without an attitude let me know.

DeSean Jackson has always kinda reminded me of Steve Smith. They have very similar body types, they have a swagger about them and they love the deep ball. Jackson plays a lot like an early version of Smith with the exception that Jackson could only dream of being as physical as Smith. Any man who can score a touchdown with a broken arm and still celebrate has my respect. The real issue with Jackson is partially he's a diva, but he has a point. The Eagles gave free agents bathtubs of cash to play for the "dream team" extending Vick, but not extending the one weapon that made Vick look good. 600k is pretty sheepish pay for a guy with nearly three 1000 yard seasons and to basically throw money to guys from the outside is insulting.

600k is a ton of money to me, but compare his contract to others matching his production and you have a pretty large disparity. Some may say play out your contract and shut up, but what if Ray Lewis paralyzes you without a contract extention in the last game of the season? Do you think the Eagles will extend that good will toward you? What if the player you sign underperforms his 5 year $30 million contract? Will that player give back that money without a court fight? Both sides are not without arguement, but players like GM's must take care of themselves to ensure the best deal possible.

That being said, I think if Jackson's price is right, we'd add a very special player to our vertical passing offense. If his price is too high, we'd be fine without him, spend the money on a DT or LB.

I dont mean be stupid no wr is worth 10 million a year. He makes 800k or so this year. If he would sign a 5 year 25 million deal you have to do that all day. I really think Cam and our offense can bring in free agents without us having to be the absolute top offer money wise.

our cap is just awful. Don't count on anything. Draft is the only solution.

This is probably the reason we won't see too many FA's. Hurney's a smart guy, and I'm sure he and Richardson are planning on taking full advantage of the new CBA. Building through the draft is the cheapest way to make your team better by far.

Don't get me wrong....totally agree with building through the draft. After last years draft proving me wrong, I'm actually excited to see what our talent scouts and RR come up with in April.

I may be looking at it wrong, but I see tons of restructure room and Hurney has surprised the fan base before. I just wanna see some playmakers in our D and yes, DE has been a bright spot this year but imagine a world where CJ goes on IR. Just would b nice to see Hurney bring Mario home!

I can't see us signing any big name offensive FAs. Next year we'll have Smitty (probably in decline, but still dangerous), Gettis, and LaFell, as well as Pilares, Nanee, and Edwards. With that group, I imagine the FO will feel that we're good at WR.

We will likely re-sign Shockey, but even if we don't we have Barnidge.

Does anyone seriously think we would sign a running back? I want what you're having if you do.

It's possible, not likely but possible that we get some depth on the OL, but with Gross, Wharton, Kalil, Schwartz, Ziemba, Bell, Hangman, and Otah I doubt it.

So that leaves defense. We have needs at LB for depth, in the secondary, and at DT.

All the FA DTs out there suck. We will probably sign someone anyway, but it's more likely that we get someone young with potential like Amobi Akoye than any of the top guys.

At LB, a lot depends on what we do with Davis, and who's available in the draft. It wouldn't surprise me if we signed someone, but that would probably be for their skill on special teams and I wouldn't be looking for a starter here.

That leaves the secondary, where we have a couple of solid starters already, but could use some help. I don't know if we look to upgrade Martin, but I would be surprised if we didn't try to move Munnerlyn back to the nickel and get a quality starter at CB. That could come through the draft (Claiborne, Kirkpatrick), but in case it doesn't it makes sense to get a quality free agent here.

So, Brent Grimes, come on down! Weaken your division rival, bolster your secondary, everyone wins! :)
