San Diego Union-Tribune reports Chargers HC Norv Turner will be fired at end of season and GM A.J. Smith could join him.

He'll probably be offered another HC position somewhere...I could see Indy if they let go of Caldwell. He's better suited for OC, though..

AJ Smith fires Shotenheimer when he goes 14-2.

What an idiot. Then he hires Turner who has never been successful and it has gone downhill ever since.

Both should have been gone already.

Agreed. Turner must be blackmailing some NFL owners to get as many shots as he has had. One of the best QB's in the league and still can't win much.

Very common misconception. AJ Smiths boss was on board, with firing Marty, and was pushing for the Norv hire.

Almost worked too, they went to the AFC Championship game the year after.

That said, it's time to go. I think Cowher makes the most sense here, especially if the fire AJ as well as Norv.

AJ does seem to have a knack for finding free agents to plug in when needed and has had some good drafts in the past. But he's a vindictive, cantakerous ass and needs to go out the door with Norv.

Or Norv could stay on board as OC if Cowher should come to town. I dont believe anyone is going to give Turner another HC opportunity.

True that, but essentially with the team Marty built. It's been under achieving and disapointment since then in a slow downward spiral.

Marty forced the issue by insisting that Kurt Schottenheimer replace Wade as DC. Dean Spanos had instituted a no-relative policy after letting Marty hire his son Brian. Had they let Kurt be DC, the idea of going into 07 with Shelmon and Kurt as our coordinators sounded downright scary.

Which kinda didn't work because firing Schotty went so long into the post season both Wade and Cam Cameron left town for HC jobs. So no Schotty, Wade or Cameron left as HC, OC and DC.

By this time the only thing left was scrap heap head coaches. Hello Norv.

Not disagreeing, but how many coaches have been to the AFC Championship game and let go right after?

Until recently, the AFC has been a much tougher conference at the top than the NFC. The Chargers were always having to go against 4 really good teams to get there. Ravens, Pats, Indy, and the Steelers.
