We were supposed to go over to my parent's house this evening. I called my mom to let her know we would be there after the game was over. My Mom informed me they were going to a Christmas party. I was like "WTF MOM! We're supposed to be coming over to celebrate Christmas with y'all." She said "Our plans changed".

Honestly, that would have hurt my feelings.

It really did hurt my feelings. I didn't even know what to say. This is not the first time something like this has happened either. Several years ago I invited them to eat at my favorite restaurant because it was my birthday. There were quite a few people going & they said they were going to go. My step sister was in town and at the last minute they decided to drive to the beach for the weekend with my step sister and her husband with out telling me about it. I called & called but no one would return my calls. I was worried to death about them and then I found out they went to the beach. I was so pissed & hurt. I wish I knew why they do this kind of stuff. I swear I'm adopted.

My inlaws (before they got divorced) were like this... very rude and inconsiderate to our plans. They would go off for weeks and not tell anyone, anytime we went out they would expect us to pay or at best ask for split checks, etc. Really hurt my wifes feelings many times. It was mainly the doing of my MiL... she's used to getting her way. When my FiL left her, the real world came as a big shock.

Wow LIAG....that is unbelievably bad. That is very hurtful.

The key to dealing with dysfunctional family members is to change your expectations.. Stop expecting them to act like decent human beings They don't...not because you do not deserve it...but because they do not have it in them.

I am sorry to hear that for you. You do deserve much better. I hope you had a nice Christmas surrounded by good people.

Next time they invite you over, wait until the last minute and then don't go. But don't tell them, just don't show up. When they ask where you were, tell them your plans changed. Do it every time until they get the message.

Also, don't expect anything from them. Always make alternate plans with your family. If they want to be included, make them come to your house. That way you are not ruining your whole night because they decided to be a-holes.

IMO that's a childish game, and you are then as immature as they are.

Talk to them about it, and work it out before it becomes an ongoing fight with very close family members.

    • This is gonna be longest six weeks ever
    • This 1000%.  Hey who wants to sign with the guy that couldn't even get his client the guaranteed contract of a 3rd round pick?  Lmao
    • I don't think it's any weird or unique clause, it's the offset language, same thing so many contract disputes are over. It just means that including it, if a player is cut and then signed by another team, the original team would be able to subtract how much they're getting paid by the new team from what they still owe him on their guaranteed money. For example, it's why Russell Wilson signed for the minimum last year with the Steelers as that was included in his Denver contract.  So if he signed with the Steelers for $1 million, he'd get $1 million less from the Broncos, if it was $2 million, he'd get $2 million less, basically he couldn't make any more money than he was already going to make, so you sign for the minimum to not take unnecessary cap room from your new team while giving extra cap room to your old one. The problem with trying to include it in rookie deals is that a team trying to include it, it says they think they don't really believe the player will make it 4 years with the team before they cut them.  And this usually comes up with one or two rookies in most seasons, the difference is it's usually handled much more quietly and not as public and ugly as this one. The other difference is that it's happening with the Bengals, which I believe I saw are one of the few (or only?) team that doesn't have protections for rookies in rookie and mini camps to be able to participate even if they haven't signed their contract yet.  The other teams have injury protections that allow them to still play, but the Bengals do not, which is also why this one is so public and ugly, as most the time this happens, the rookie is still participating in the rookie and subsequent mini camps, giving them more time to get the contract done before training camp when they'd then hold out.
