Rebuilding the D

Even if Johnson and Hardy could hold own the edges and I would have serious concerns about Hardy. He can't even hold the edge in a 4-3. But assuming you are right, your OLBs aren't big enough to shed blocks and still make tackles. You need guys like Applewhite who are bigger yet can play in space. I suspect Connor will be gone given he wants to start and here he would be a backup. I think Beason and Davis/Anderson would play the ILBs and we would have to get a couple of OLBs.

thats true! Anderson and Senn not really quick and able to shed tackles.

But! I do like applewhites play and what he is able to do.

I think they should give Thomas Keiser a chance to start.

Maybe his success was just a fluke but i would give him opportunity

Keiser definitely is a keeper although I am not sure where he would be best at this point if we made the change. Just the sacks alone justify keeping him.

I like Anderson inside with Beason in your scenario. Davis would be a guy who can go inside as well as outside due to his speed and tenacity, asuming he is able to play at his 2009 level. I hope for the best but expect something to go wrong. Maybe it is me but it seems each year something goes wrong that we have to overcome injury-wise.

thats very true also! Something always goes wrong.

I kind of think we need to draft someone to replace davis. We can keep davis, edit his contract, and give him another chance, AND!...have a young guy in the draft that can replace him WHEN his knee goes out again

My position on this is I don't care if we run a 3-4, 4-3, 3-3-5, 4-2-5, etc.

I just want us to start playing some fugging defense like the majority of these teams in the playoffs are doing.

Whatever works. Whatever we did this year didn't work and it wasn't all entirely personnel problems although that didn't help.

Considering we can't get much worse, like literally, I assume we'll be better regardless. They know what they have to do.

Remember, what was our biggest issue last season?? We were ANEMIC offensively. We struggled for first downs. They took care of that in 1 offseason. I'll trust them to take care of the D.

Is Cam Newton going to start playing defense too?? ;)

they will show both 3-4 and 4-3.

With our personal, it is obvious the 4-3 will remain the base defense. Rivera said so himself.

I''m still not confident in mcdermett.

Would be more comfortable with rivera calling the defense....but whether he'll take that on as a head coach or not, is yet to be seen.

The defense doesn't need as much as people think. Have to get better production (pass rush & run defense) from our front 4. Specially interior.

Could use another talanted safety in the secondary.

Hard to know if they'll go CB until we know more about the rookie who didn't play.

Long off season.

Mcdermett is not my choice either but feel we will have him at least another year.I do not see oul DL as very consistant in getting the type of pressure we will need. The 4-3 is predicated in getting pressure with your front 4 as the Giants do.I see our biggest need on defense is a pass rusher,cb,and safety
