Michael Brockers, DT, LSU

guys, when it comes to DT all we really have is a bunch of good rotational guys and no starters
agreed and we can't be content with that or sugar coat it.

we need to have at least one legit starter at each position.

for all our holes, DT remains our weakest spot.

there may be worse starters on our team, but as a whole DT is the weakest overall position.

From the Bears to the Chargers.....he follows Rivera!

But it was Chargers defensive coordinator Ron Rivera and line coach Don Johnson who truly believed Garay was a diamond in the rough.

"Don Johnson, (defensive backs coach) Steve Wilks and I were all in Chicago when he was there (in 2006-07), and his athleticism was undeniable," Rivera said. "He was a wrestler in high school and in college, so he has great balance and therefore doesn't spend a lot of time on the ground. He has tremendous strength and drive as well. You combine those three elements and it provides the foundation for a quality football player."

At the time, the Chargers were looking for a player to plug gaps after longtime starter Jamal Williams was lost for the season with injury.

i would be happy if we got garay and i could see garay wanting to get back with rivera. i think brockers would be better long term, but garay added to what we have would be a huge upgrade. a healthy ron edwards would be good as well for a year or two.

i just want us to get the best player possible wherever we can without feeling pressured to reach for players because we are desperate to fill a specific need.

I'd love Garay as well. But one thing we desperately need is someone that can get consistent pressure up the middle, and I don't know that Garay can do that for us. I think in a lot of ways he'd be duplicating what we expect out of Edwards...a run defender that can take up blockers. So, I would have no problem bringing in Garay, but I would still take Brockers since he is expected to develop into a very good pass rusher as well.

If Ron was smart enough to see the potential in Garay after he was shot down by several teams makes me feel confident about Fua and McClain. Obviously he sees something there that us fans do not.

I agree. I think we fans tend to get way too impatient at times. Now I have always felt both Fua and McClain will eventually be good players for us, but I was never deluded enough to think we got another Suh who would be dominant from day one. So, I'm all for giving them time to develop. The only question I have is whether either can ever become the dynamic force we need up the middle. That's why I'd be all for bringing in Brockers. From everything I have heard and seen, he has that potential.

The Giants have stock piled Dlinemen.. I would not mind drafting Brockers in the 1st, and another pass rusher in the 2nd.. maybe a OLB that can rush the passer like Ronnell Lewis or someone we can use like Von Miller.

The Giants invested several high round picks to get their Dline:

2011 - Marvin Austin - 2nd Round

2010 - Jason Pierre-Paul - 1st Round

2010 - Linval Joseph - 2nd Round

2006 - Matthias Kiwanuka - 1st Round

2006 - Barry Cofield - 4th Round

2005 - Justin Tuck - 3rd Round

2003 - William Joseph - 1st Round

2003 - Osi Umenyiora - 2nd Round

When is the last time we invested a 1st or 2nd Round pick on Dline? We have spent several 3rd round picks on Dline, but I did not list them.. many of them takes a couple years to develop including Charles Johnson.

2009: Everrette Brown - 2nd Round

2002: Julius Peppers - 1st Round

2001: Kris Jenkins - 2nd Round

1999: Mike Rucker - 2nd Round

Time to draft Dline Hurney! We are overdue.

    • Call me crazy but if you’re in the bottom 7 in efficiency using Zone 84% of the time why not try something else? You paid Jaycee top 5 CB money use him more effectively. Zone is only efficient if you can generate a good pass rush to force a QB into mistakes otherwise you will get picked apart
    • Good Lord this board has become a cesspool of negativity and where fandom becomes something twisted and unrecognizable.
    • Yeah, I could jump right into the unbelievable Bryce debate now that some people are trying to flip the script because Bryce Young has, at most, a handful of decent games as a pro, but that's going to work itself out. Suffice it to say that I've seen better QBs (with an s) in a Panthers uniform, and I've certainly seen better QBs be drafted while we're playing around with Bryce, one of them who beat the crap out of us already this season... Let's forget about Bryce (and his markedly underwhelming play since he's been here); I think that most sane fans will agree that drafting him was an error, but it happens. Sure, it doesn't happen to the tune of King's ransom---including your main receiver---but it happens. You bet, you lose. Speaking of receivers...and betting and losing... Oh, man, we drafted Xavier Legette. Yes, just like with Bryce, I've entered "the dark side." Some Huddlers were telling us from the beginning, and they were right. But, I'm not apologizing for waiting to see what a guy's got before making my decision on him. X was a one-year wonder at South Carolina who parlayed some really nice production that season, a great personality and thick country accent, into becoming a first round pick (but only in Carolina). For Dan Morgan and company, He was a big swing that has turned into a big whiff (and I can still feel the ill breeze from that one). Sh¡t happens, right? Well, not so fast. Ladd McConkey was the decidedly more polished receiver who was literally ready to hit the ground running as soon as stepping onto the field as a pro. Ladd was never the biggest guy (though not the smallest), but he was the guy that could run routes, always seemed to get open---no question---and had the same speed as X, but with legit quickness and nuanced shake and bake. But Dan chose the project. He chose the guy where the game speed looks more like a tractor trailer than a 5.0 mustang. Look, I've supported X (just like Bryce) many many a day, but no more. Now I'm not saying that I won't root for the guy. Just like with Bryce, he seems like a great kid. But as far as giving excuses for the kid, and, perhaps more importantly, waiting for some miraculous breakout, I'm done with that. I've seen enough. You don't draft a project for a project. And yes, Bryce had proven to be a project after his first season. In my mind, drafting a supposedly number one receiver that needs lots of development for a starting quarterback that needs immediate help to try and further his development is not going to lead to good things. Pick the surest guy. Or at least pick the one who appears to be the surest guy, because picking can be tricky... especially when you're too busy tricking yourself.
