Coach Rivera says he has a plan if Chud leaves [that doesn't involve major changes]

Panthers head coach Ron Rivera has had to prepare a plan in case Chudzinski is rewarded with a promotion, and it doesn't include major changes to scheme or personnel, he said. "No matter what happens, we still have to go forward and we'll still have the same players and pretty much the same scheme, so we'll see how things unfold," Rivera told PFW.

God no, please don't promote Shula.

From Shula's bio on panthers.com:

In addition to Shula's work as a quarterbacks coach, he presided over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' offense as offensive coordinator for four seasons from 1996-99. The Buccaneers reached the playoffs in two of Shula's four years, advancing to the NFC Championship in 1999. Shula helped quarterback Trent Dilfer earn Pro Bowl honors in 1997 when he set then-team records for touchdowns and most consecutive pass attempts without an interception.

Doesn't sound all bad..

From the same article

WR Steve Smith decided he wanted to stay with the Panthers last offseason after considering other options, and he went on to have his best season since 2008, making the Pro Bowl for the first time since that season. To say he was reenergized by the arrival of QB Cam Newton would be inaccurate, though. Smith told PFW. "There are passes that Cam threw me that I could have went and got (during the 2010 season), but they just weren't thrown to me," he said. "How do you recharge a battery when it's never been dead? You're going to update my software and I already have the iPhone 4S? What are you reenergizing? (Newton) isn't making me run. What makes me run is my fans, my three kids, my wife. … Cam has been a missing piece that we've needed, but he hasn't reenergized any of these batteries that were already juiced up."

Love Smith

    • Jake in his prime was a gutsy QB. But just like with even someone like Cam. Father time is undefeated. It's very unfortunate we have a guy who is only 24 years old that has an equivalent arm to that. Absolutely blows my mind that our brain trust lacked the basic common sense to value arm talent when making a massive trade with ramifications for years to come. Unforgivable incompetence.
    • Jake, to me, will always hold a special place in my heart.  I really feel like for his era, he deserved way more love than he got, and should’ve had more than his one Pro Bowl.  He was a gamer with an underrated rocket arm. but let me tell you, after his Tommy John surgery, when he came back, I can’t remember who it was against, but it think it was a division game, he threw a ball that was supposed to be a throw away, as I think he was under pressure, and that poo floated forever and died right at the boundary where a defender ran over and picked it off.  One of the worst throws I ever saw.  His arm just wasn’t the same after the injury and surgery.  All that to say, that’s what almost every Bryce throw to the sidelines looks like to me.
    • And again, when watching him in college he had one distinct trait that I feel makes a franchise QB - on those plays when everything breaks down around him, he creates one on his own.  He doesn’t rely on or need everyone else.  That play last night on the final drive where he was getting sacked and threw it to Diggs before his knee hit the ground?  He does similar things all the time.  Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, etc., they all do it.  It’s what made Cam so special. but we picked a guy that’s the opposite of that.  He desperately needs someone else to make a play for him because he can’t.  Even that play yesterday on 4th down to Horn.  That wasn’t a great pass.  The defender was late and came down to make a play in the ball and Bryce threw it high and outside where Horn had to leave his feet and really use strong hands to catch it.  We relied on a 5’9” rookie playing in his first pro game to make THAT catch at THAT time bc of the early turnovers and a not great throw.  Crazy.
