Why Not Draft a WR?

We do need a WR. We have no potential #1 next to smitty who these fans have a hard time accepting his inevitable aging. Besides oline there is no other need on offense and if we are going with Otah, WR is the #1 need. Why in the hell would you bank on Gettis? I want a WR but it's far from the top f the list considering the entire team and not just the offense.

We don't need a WR this year and maybe not next, but what then? We need a real #1 with Cam, and someone Cam can grow with. It's a little short sighted to say we have no need for a WR when there is zero #1 material on the team. You don't draft a WR when you immediately need one, they can take a couple years to develop. Blackmon will be gone at our pick.

I know we have Steve, Gettis, and Brandon but after that who do we really have? Other than the TE and RB. Somebody with sure Hands that we can use for pick plays, Cross Routes, Etc. Just a thought.

let me see if I can spell this out appropriately...

your question is asking why don't we need another receiver after naming 3 guys who will be starting along with a solid backup in Naanee and ignoring 2 main targets in Olsen and Shockey (2 more "WR"), so why aren't we in need of drafting another receiver despite this sport requiring 21 starters (a team game) and having holes all over the defense and a need to shore up the OLine?

I think our whole draft should basically be defense. WR is a need but I think we have a cometitive enough offense to wait and see if Gettis will step it up this year.

Still the time for a new #1 WR is going to come and I hope Hurney is prepared because he is god awful at picking WRs and he should start while there is time.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
