If Tampa Bay wins out...

Tampa would win.

If they win out any loss would knock us behind them in tiebreakers.

If we lose to Denver, and win the other two, we lose the 3rd tiebreaker, common games.

If we lose to NYG, we lose the 4th tiebreaker, Conference opponents.

If we lose to NO, we lose the 2nd tiebreaker, Division record.

This basically happened because our non-division Conference loss (Min) hits us in both the common games and conference tiebreakers, theirs (Dal) only hurts them in the conference tiebreaker.

It is possible for us to end the season tied and win the tiebreakers, but that would require them losing at least one game and then would probably come down to strenght of victory (right now we have +4 points on the Bucs). But if they win out, we have to do the same to win the division.

That's why it's so important for the Falcons to beat the Bucs at home on Sunday. (They finish up with SD and OAK at home)

If ATL wins out (11-5), TB wins final two (11-5), Panthers could actually lose to DEN and NYG, then beat NO. At 11-5 they would still win the division, and still have the #2 seed (own tiebreaker over AZ head to head).

It's all in the Yahoo Playoff Generator: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/playoffscenario?algorithm=yahooranker

The key tends to be Atlanta beating Tampa this weekend and Dallas beating the Giants. If that happens and we can somehow beat Denver and upset New York. Even if we lose to NO in week 17, we still have the number 1 seed and homefield through out the playoffs. Not saying all of that is likely but it could happen.

If Dallas beats the Giants and the Panthers beat Denver I don't think it would be an upset when the Panthers beat the Giants.

The game this weekend will be interesting. Atlanta is the better team, but Tampa just got embarrassed by us... they will be looking to prove something.

It IS at Atl and as we all know, this WHOLE damn division is undefeated at home, which in itself to me is incredible. So if this remains throughout the season then TB will have AT LEAST 2 more wins and ATL will have 2 more wins.

I know EVERYONE'S chalking up a win for the Bucs against the Chargers.

But we all know the Chargers CAN win, they just haven't much. They can surprise people late in the year (crazy we're talking about the Chargers "surprising")

I wouldn't be SO sure that the Bucs will beat the Falcons or the Chargers

I've got that feeling too. It just feels like a late season chokejob from Chucky is coming.

    • They can get film of all the games? Every team? Wow! Who knew… Our games with them are big examples of why they are in  the CB market so hard.   It is the study they do getting ready for the games.  Preparing to play against is a little different than just analyzing film in scout mode. Deeper dive. Then you are analyzing post game too.  This goes to why players often change teams but stay in the division. The opponents know each other on a higher level.  Plus if you lost to us, you used to get fired. Now you have to trade your first round pick. Moving up on the world.
    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
