Our Secondary sucks in part because they are being asked to cover for 5+ seconds. Adding one risky piece isn't going to make Drew Brees less accurate.

The NFL doesn't work this way any more. QBs are too good and passing attacks are too complex and efficient at what they do. The only way to disrupt that efficiency by forcing the QB off of his rhythm. The days of the shut down CB are coming to an end.

Cox in the first, pressure up the middle is key

No DT in the draft has a really well developed pass rush skill set, so I do not think that any player we draft at #9 from a DT standpoint will be able to come in and contribute. Is brockers gonna be able to move anyone with that step and strike with one of the weakest bench presses for a DT ever recorded? Not impressed, thats not even normal.

That's something I'm willing to bring him in to work on, and in a worse case scenario, he moves to FS and we send Martin packing, then we either find ourselves a solid #2 corner in free agency, or with a high draft pick next season.

Gamble at #1 corner

Godfrey at Strong

Dre at Free

And like I said, FA or next year pick at #2 corner

I would definitely take that secondary as a consolation prize if he didn't pan out at corner.

why would we send martin packing? what are we going to get out of him? a next year 6th? if anything move martin back to where we drafted him for, "cb" . even though he gave up big plays last year, he showed he have the potential.

We wouldn't get anything for him. He's terrible. IMO, he took a big step backward last year and got worse as the year progressed. That's alarming.

No thanks on having a guy who can't cover and who doesn't have any ball skills playing CB.

No he didn't show he have potential.

He gave up way too many big plays and is an absolute liability in the passing game. Send him packing just like we dropped Everette Brown like a bad habit.

This coaching staff, with Hurney and JR included, have pretty much openly admitted Martin is garbage.

strengths can be improve with in the NFL. natural technique and skill cant. having a good dline makes a secondary a whole lot better. i like dre but he aint no namdi or revis. hes another gamble only. theres enough cb to go around which may fall into the second like (gillmore, hosely, mannifield, denard etc.) but no brockers or poe or still are going to fall into the second that easy. take your dt in the first and still able to get a good cb in the second.

you can ask almost everyone and theyll say martin is atleast another look for a year or two. he played well under fox's last year. learning mcdermott scheme in a lockout offseason is hard enough and esp being second year player last year.

yeah...i'm going to disagree with that.

saban's system is primarily a zone coverage. they'll go man on third down, but esp. the first couple downs they are in a zone.

now i don't think that kirkpatrick is necessarily a liability in man, but i don't think he's best suited for it. he's not like gamble in that regard. he's built like him but he's the opposite. gamble is much better in man than in zone. kirkpatrick has just been better in zone than in man.

he's more comfortable looking at the backfield and trying to diagnose plays than sticking with his man and it's too easy for him to get caught staring in the backfield while his man gets past him so he'll need someone to cover over the top. he's not incredibly fluid and doesn't have the best footwork so he has to compensate a bit and it can get him in trouble.

i think he can learn man coverage, but it's just not natural for him.

When the owner answers a question about you with "What about him?" and "I think he plays Safety", competition is incoming.

Bad year for FS in the draft, unfortunately.

What I don't understand is that people keep bringing up the fact that Bama played man-to-man coverage the majority of the time. They're saying because of this he is good in man-to-man coverage. Just because someone comes from a certain system in college doesn't mean they are "good" at it. I mean Clausen played QB in college and look where he is now.

Regardless of what style they played, Dre is very good at playing with the ball in front of him. His tools translate more to zone.

    • Let's pause a sec and rewind. The hype for Bryce Young before we drafted him was beyond anything I've seen in a long time. If you're trying to tell me now after all the hoopla about his ability to make those around him better and the comparisons to hall of fame players across different sports leagues that him taking the next step this year fully hinges on Adam Thielen then we're probably already doomed. Thielen is not going to keep any defenses up at night. He has good hands and very low YAC. We have 4 young WR's ahead of him with potential that need crucial development and we certainly need to find out what we have in them sooner rather than later because regardless of what transpires this season the QB room should undoubtedly be getting a hard reset. Those reps need to go to the young WR's regardless. Bryce needs to step up and take ownership of the relationship between himself and his young receivers. That's why we drafted him.
