Poe could be our Newton...

i was big on Brockers athletic ability but the combine killed that. his tape doesnt lie, and he will be good. but Poe and Cox are more athletic and thats something that cannot be taught. the best way to rush the passer is by having athletic DL man that can get after the qb.

I dont think that anyone has said that a DT isnt important in the 4-3. If they did, they are idiots.

I think some are implying that DEs are more imortant though, and I would agree.

I like Brokers/Poe too, but only because I think they will be the BPA this year at our pick. If there was a beast DE on the board, I would much rather pick one of them.

A good rush end is nice to have but its more of a luxury than anthing else. We play in a division chocked full of QB talent. Now, say we have bookends that rush quickly up the field but we do not address the interior. The pocket sets up perfectly with the ends pushed too far up the field with no middle pressure. The QB only has to step up into the clean pocket away from the outside rush and deliver a drew brees dagger right into the end zone.

but any defensive scheme places an importance on DL.

okay. Drafting a raw DT likely isn't going to improve anything in the near future nor do we even know what we have at DT right now. You don't evaluate 1st, 2nd or 5th rounder after just a rookie season. Takes a few years, we have young bodies.

For all we know, one of our existing DTs could be a Charles Johnson. If there was a Suh or Fairley or something this year, then yeah we would need to pull the trigger...but there isn't. We don't have to go DT...we have other areas of need and some of those don't have unknown youth to be evaluated the next couple seasons.

You don't sit still at positions of weakness because you want to wait and see how some middle of the pack rookies develop. If they don't pan out and you never bothered to add more talent to the position because you were waiting for them to develop, you are screwed. If they do pan out but you still ended up further strengthening that position? You become a deep and talented team at one of the most important positions on the field.

    • So Willis had a good game against a poor defense and all of a sudden he is worth 50 million and is guaranteed to be better than Young. LOL I know he looked good in the 3 games he started, and I think he will have success long term, but anyone signing him up for a long term contract for 50 million is taking a huge risk.
    • Is he really though? Rivera was past his prime and probably shouldn't have even started 2019 so his firing wasn't really unexpected or unwarranted. Rhule lasted two and a half years which was about one year too long in my opinion. Bringing him back that third year certainly wasn't impulsive and I would say Tepper was more patient than he should have been. Wilks finished out that third season and did pretty good but most everyone could see he really wasn't anything more than an intern HC. Bringing him back was not the long term answer so not bringing him back was the correct call. Hiring Reich was a mistake from the beginning and he recognized that fairly quickly. I am sure he knew he was going to catch a lot of sh*t for firing him so quickly ( and boy did he ) but it was absolutely the right thing to do given everything that was going on. The firing may have looked impulsive, but I think it was him recognizing he had royally f*ck up and just dealt with it instead of letting it fester.  That brings us to Canales. 2025 was only his second season and yet he delivered 8 wins and the NFC South title. And while that might not sound great, given the lack of talent and cap space they started with, it's a strong step in the right direction. I couldn't imagine Tepper not being pleased with their progress given the crap the Panthers' have been though under his ownership.
