Cell phones ok during a Nascar race?

Not sure this is a good idea.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- NASCAR said Tuesday Brad Keselowski can keep his cellphone in his race car during events, and all drivers are encouraged to use social media.

Keselowski

Keselowski drew worldwide attention for posting on Twitter during a red-flag period in Monday night's season-opening Daytona 500. He posted pictures, answered questions and kept fans informed of what was happening during the stoppage that lasted just over two hours.

The tweeting gained Keselowski roughly 14

I can see some of the tweets now:

"Jr is trying to pass on the outside. Hold on a sec."

"Holy crap...did you see that flip he just did? I looked wicked cool from my rear view mirror!!"

"Alright, 10 laps to go. Got the lead. Just gotta pass these slow mother........."

"DAmn that hurt. Spending the night in the hospital for observations."

You left out this part.

"We encourage our drivers to use social media to express themselves as long as they do so without risking their safety or that of others."

It's not like they're going to be texting while while they're exiting turn four, three wide.

He wasn't even in the car when he was posting stuff. It was a 2 hour red flag and all the driver were hanging out joking and BSing... I seriously doubt they would text and drive

Someone probably brought the phone to him after they got out of their cars, I would think.

This......friggin idiots who are thinking NASCAR drivers are tweeting while racing @ 100+ mph. although, all of those "that was so 20 seconds ago" commercials would be a great Nascar commercial involving a driver.

I thought Keso already said he had it in the car with him. maybe i'm making that up but I could have sworn I heard that spewing out of one of the Waltrip's mouths during the broadcast.

    • I could smell this excuse coming. Any starter drafted after the 2nd is a bonus, not an expectation. Oh we need more offensive help because we spent so much on defense. We spent all that because we've barely drafted any defensive starters the last 5 years. The way I see it you'll get a better return on investment in defense than offense currently with this team. We proved that last year with just a modicum of investment in the defense. I'm not the biggest believer in Evero but I trust him more than Bryce.  The biggest factor holding the offense back wears #9. Accuracy is one of his strengths? 23rd in the league while being 30th in Y/A. Someone will claim we get no YAC but 49% of our yards were YAC which is higher than most teams in the league.  Unless he drastically improves you're going to get a bad return on investment. Yes TMac had a great rookie year but it wasn't exactly efficient volume wise. He has one of the worst catch % in the league at just 57%, probably related to that 23rd accuracy ranking.
    • If this team lets the Bucks or Bulls catch them, Charles Lee should be fired immediately and punched in the face by some random fan on the way to his car.
    • Bucks and Bulls have to try hard to tank and not take our play in spot at this point, still not mathematically eliminated I think but too tired to do the math, too close for comfort either way to close out the regular season in a drought
