Draft Tidbits

I don't see us going Keuchly at #9. Its just too high for a non-pass rushing LB. I said it last week that the guy had like 2 sacks and zero forced fumbles in his career. He'd make a great Tampa 2 MLB because of his range but we had Jon Beason...so unless we are thinking of moving Beason to the outside then I don't see the point in draft Keuchly because MLB is probably the only position you play him at if he's drafted in the top 15 picks.

I do like the Marcus Kuhn reference though. He ate up blockers while at NC State and would make a pretty solid late round pick if we are looking at possible 5T DEs.

I wouldn't be mad about Blackmon...he would be a heck of a weapon to plug into our already dynamic offense but our defense is what lost games for us last year so I'd like to go DL in the first round.

It just depends on how much better the FO thinks that Beason, Davis, and Edwards will make us when they come back. We need pass rushers though...Davis is really the only one of those players that will primarily effect the pass rush and its not guarantee that he stays healthy.

Like unicar said, I doubt this means anything. We aren't going to take a player just because he trained at IMG. Yes, it does give us a better look at them.. but that doesn't mean much. We aren't going to replace Beason at MLB and move him to OLB..

Maybe he did not get sacks because they did not rush him.Just because he didnt does not mean he cant. With Claiborne and Couple off the board I think Luke and Ingram are the best availible

I was reading about Alabama's pro day. They listed some of the teams represented and the Panthers were not on the list. I wonder if this means Dre Kirkpatrick is not on their list. Mark Barron too, if he fell to the 2nd I'd take him.

I thought that was odd as well ....maybe a mistake......Hell they went to watch Rico Wallace at Shenandoah university.

I know the the BC staff probably isn't the greatest in the world but if you have an NFL level talent at LB then why would you not send him to rush the passer occassionally.

Could we use Keuchly? Yeah. But the questions you have to ask yourself are:

Is he an upgrade over Beason at MLB for us? No.

Is he an upgrade over TD at OLB? No.

Is he an upgrade over Anderson at OLB? No.

Before Beason and TD got hurt last year we were talking about possibly having the best linebacking corp in the entire NFL. Now all of a sudden because they get hurt we want to spend a top 10 pick on a linebacker??? Makes no sense.

It's called insurance. What if they go down again? Beason's injury isn't anything minimal. It's a serious one. Heck I remember that we weren't going to take Beason back then cuz of Morgan, we had a legit MLB in Morgan. But look at what happened. We got Beason. History can repeat itself and it would be Ironic if it happened to beason.

and there are other LBs in the draft that will be there later who were also tackling machines, and shown the ability to rush the passer.

Exactly...you don't draft a guy for "insurrance" at the 9th overall pick. You draft a guy who is either BPA or you draft the top player at a position of need. That's why we aren't drafting an OL or LB. WR isn't a "need" but Blackmon would probably be BPA if he's there at #9 which makes him a possibility. We are either going corner or DL with this pick unless every worthy DL or CB has been taken...if that's the case then we move down or possibly take Blackmon if he's there.

    • fuging Christ dude this isnt hard.  Like at all.  I get you simping for this poo team is your thing but sometimes you have to look at reality.   Even removing his bum knee from the equation, none of this made sense.  He is 31.  He has been paid handsomely for his service here.  He was currently under contract for this season.  Why in the holy fug did anything have to be done 2 weeks before the season started.   The people for this move, in this thread are saying A) He deserved it (this is the nfl it doesnt work like that  B) It frees up cap space (then why in the fug didnt we do this in Feb or C) You logic (We are getting a deal at 53 million guaranteed for the next 3 years.   You realize with this deal we cannot cut or trade his ass for 3 years.  You understand this right?   So in my opinion we should have let this ride into the offseason and go from there, what he is going to threaten to walk, big fuging deal he would be 32 on a chronically bad knee, what other moronic franchise is going to give him 40 million up front?  It wasnt going to happen.   And you are acting like its impossible to replace a 32 year old RT with a bum knee.  Just go and draft someone, move Icky to RT.  There are tons of options instead of extending this dude 2 weeks before the fuging season.  The truth is Morgan and the shitheads in the FO fell for this dudes crying act and got all sentimental and shelled out another ext.  We are a poverty ass franchise that doesnt act professionally
    • Amazing what the prospect of being traded to Carolina will do for contract negotiations.
    • 5 Im glad football is back but after the embarrassment that was the browns pre season game where our starting D made Sanders look like a serviceable NFL QB, I lost hope again for a successful Panthers campaign this year.  I do hope I’m wrong!
