Everette Brown DE FSU

Give this guy a year to bulk up and develop and he will look like a legit first round talent. Alot of teams passed on him because he's only 6'1-6'2 but this guy makes plays. I'd much rather have him, than some height-weight-speed guy that never does sh-- on the field.

True, he's never going to be huge just because of his height. I can see him adding 10-20 lbs though. He might always be somewhat undersized but I think he'll be a great player for us regardless.

He's around the same size as Charles Johnson who's 6'2" 270

Truth be told though, there are plenty of successful DEs in the league the same size as Brown.

You don't have to weigh a lot to be stronger than the opposition.

CJ is pretty damn strong and he isn't all that big(compared to some DE)

As long as he is strong enough, his speed and technique will get the job done.(hopefully)

Should be interesting at camp seeing him line up against Otah.

Both are each other's greatest weakness.

It will be as simple as this. If Otah gets his hands on Brown, he's done. If Brown gets Otah moving side to side, he's done.

He said Saturday became “the best day ever” when the Panthers' coach John Fox phoned to tell him they'd traded up with San Francisco to select him with the No.43 overall pick of the draft

“Obviously for me to put on the uniform and to be in a great situation here in Carolina, for me, is the best thing that could've happened,” he said.

Brown led the ACC with 131/2 sacks and 211/2 tackles for loss last season and is expected to make an immediate impact on the Panthers' pass rush. He'll be a leading contender to start at left defensive end opposite four-time Pro Bowler Julius Peppers, who plays the right side.

Brown is smaller (6-11/2, 256 pounds) than the prototype defensive end, but the Panthers love his first-step quickness and strength.

He said he likes the fact that new Carolina defensive coordinator Ron Meeks coached two undersized but highly productive defensive ends as Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator – Dwight Freeney (6-1, 268) and Robert Mathis (6-2, 245).

“It's encouraging,” Brown said of playing for Meeks. “(When) coach Meeks (was) in Indianapolis, those guys really knew how to get after the passer. They weren't the biggest players. But one thing about it, when you turn on that film, they were 100 miles per hour, to the echo of the whistle.

“That's the way I played at Florida State and that's the way I'm going to continue to play. The bill coach Meeks wants me to fill is the best bill I could have walked into, the best situation for me.”

Brown said he had spoken by phone with team owner Jerry Richardson, who was home recovering from his early February heart transplant surgery.

“He wasn't available to be here today, but in the conversation, it was very optimistic,” said Brown.

“He told me when I come back for minicamp (this weekend) to stop by. He really wanted to have a sit-down conversation with me and just go over the whole program, where we're headed and what it's going to take to get there.”

From the Observer.

    • https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/46683459/2025-nfl-offseason-tiers-32-teams-best-worst-signings-trades-draft-barnwell Slightly above expectations Highlights: Trading WR Adam Thielen, signing RB Rico Dowdle (one year, $2.8 million), drafting fifth-round TE Mitchell Evans   Disappointments: Re-signing CB Mike Jackson (two years, $10.5 million)   The Panthers chose the right time to move on from Thielen, who had been productive in Carolina before being dealt to Minnesota just before the season. He has been lost in the shuffle there. While the Panthers won't see the fourth-round pick that forms the bulk of the return for Thielen until 2027, getting out from what was owed to a player who has 47 receiving yards in Minnesota is an easy victory. Dowdle has been a revelation since moving into the starting lineup after Chuba Hubbard's injury, becoming one of a handful of players in NFL history to produce consecutive 200-yard scrimmage games. The former Cowboys back was averaging 3 yards per carry before the opportunity, so I'm not sure I would count on him playing like Jim Brown the rest of the way in a rotational role alongside Hubbard. But it's hard to argue that Carolina hasn't already gotten its $2.8 million worth out of the 27-year-old back. Most of Carolina's biggest moves are either tracking to be right around expectation (drafting wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan) or have been impacted by unexpected injuries (signing defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton). Jackson was a pleasant surprise as a starter in 2024, and he hasn't been terrible this season, but most of the big plays against Carolina have come on throws against the former Seahawks cornerback. Overall, though, this has been a very reasonable offseason for the Panthers
    • How would you have taken the guy who was picked ahead of us? That makes no sense.
    • I am not denying that things were said. That wasn’t my point. But carry on this will go nowhere.    Oh snap, the post calling him a liar was like three posts before you jumped in.  what do you get, a post a page?
