Rumor on a hornets board is that Benson has known he has been approved the team since monday and has a "team" organized looking into rebranding the new orleans team.

Also, an article on nola.com asking is fans want rebranding..the poll provided for fans has over 80% "in favor" of a name change to something more new orleans...

Once again this for those interested even though there are some who are not...this is the "rebrand" thread...fwiw

Looks like Hornets will be ours for the taking.

Benson said he is also trying to change the name of the NBA team to better fit the ambience, culture and charm of New Orleans.

"We need to find a name like (Jazz)," Benson said, referring to New Orleans first NBA team that relocated to Salt Lake City in 1979. "Whether we can get that or let us use that, you've got to know we're working on it. We'd like to change it tomorrow. We have not gotten that approved, but we're not letting up on it, either. Because we've got a good relationship with the commissioner and his people and we're going to be on them daily to do something."

Never said that JR was a fantastic owner or that I agree with everything he does.

As usual, you try and deflect the question when asked.....

Please name me ANYTHING that Johnson or Jordan has done successfully for the Charlotte franchise. Name one trade...one draft pick....one ANYTHING.

You CAN'T....because they DON'T exist.

Both have been total failures and have systemically put together the WORST roster and franchise in the HISTORY of the NBA.

See, this kind of post is just silly. Those guys did make some good trades, a couple decent picks, and put together a team that was pretty fun to watch the year they made the playoffs (the trade for Stephen Jackson, for instance). The problem is there wasnt a cohesive long-term goal for putting together a team that could make a run in the playoffs and be consistently competitive.

The idea that their moves "systematically put together the WORST roster and franchise in the HISTORY of the NBA" is laughable- the roster was a borderline playoff team until Cho (correctly) decided the best long term move was to trade the most talented players and commit to rebuilding. Certainly the ownership to this point has not been ideal, but your histrionics aren't really appropriate.

They had ONE season of what would be considered mediocre....then got embarassed in the first round of the playoffs.

The moves that Johnson and Jordan made have been terrible. They had no plan....they had no vision....they were merely making knee jerk moves that NEVER improved the team.

Re-branding shouldn't be this controversial. I will pull for the NC team if the are the Bobcats or the Hornets.

I do think though that there is a contingency that will always relate "Bobcats" to Bob Johnson and re-branding could be a very good idea.

I have said since MJ took over that they needed to re-brand. Maybe not changing their name, but changing the logo, maybe altering the color scheme, and making it seem more like a new era for Bobcats basketball.

With a high pick this draft and the possibility of opening up the Hornets it is a great time to make that transition.
