Stephon Gilmore A True Option

The main knock on Gilmore is not that he is bad at coverage, its more that he is inconsistent and inexperienced, with only three years playing CB at a high level. This, of course, will get better over time. I don't know if this means Gilmore or Dre, but I'm pretty sure that most NFL teams are looking at both of these guys if they are looking at CB.

Gilmore is a reach at 9. If we trade back get more picks then I'm cool with Gilmore being the pick.

Also People need to forget Chandler Jones in the 2nd round. He won't be there.

People need to stop forgetting there are only 32 picks in the first round. Just because you designate someone a first round talent doesnt mean that he will go in the first 32 picks.

Dont forget he is really young too. True Junior coming out.

He's not a reach at 9 anymore, he's considered the 2nd rated CB and some scouts are rating him very close to Claiborne. He'll actually probably be BPA at #9 and has easily moved himself into the top 10 on draft day. I'm not sure if Carolina makes the pick, but I wouldn't be upset about it. I'd rather have DL help though.

Reach is such an overused word in the 1st these days with the rookie pay scale the way it is.

A reach in the 1st is now taking a guy you can easily have in the late 2nd or early 3rd with a first round pick. It's not taking a guy that could be gone 6 spots later.

If they draft him, I'll be fine with it. He's only been a CB 3 years and is getting better.

Still not sure I want us to get a corner in the first though.

Reach is not an over used word when you take a player in the 1st rnd that may not immediately contribute. I don't even think Gilmore is better than Cap, so we can stop right there because we need a #2 CB.

You're absolutely blind if you don't think Gilmore is better than Cap. They're nothing alike, and Gilmore was better in college, at the same one no less.

Gilmore has everything on Cap. Don't let fanboyism blind yourself, Gilmore would immediately be our solid #2.

Gilmore is the most physically gifted CB in this draft, he just has an issue with technique right now. He's also a student of the game and is a leader on the field. Capt isn't a starting caliber NFL CB nor does he have that ability, Gilmore however does have the ability to be a starter.

You need to check your eyesight. I've seen Gilmore get burned numerous times and I don't think that he's better than Cap, nore do I want him as our #2. Janoris Jenkins is far better than Gilmor.

Gilmore> Captain, its not really a debate....

Gilmore reminds me of one of the guys I played football with in high school, the guy decided not to play some FCS football, but he was our stud on our team. Gilmore reminds me of a swag player who can lead a secondary... He actually helped call the plays in his secondary.

If Stephon Gilmore is "truly" an option at #9 (lol),

Then what is Lance Lewis worth??

Lance Lewis is a WR out of ECU that took Stephon Gilmore to church in a head to head machup. Lance Lewis had 13 catches 108 yards and 2 TDs against South Carolina.

Game against South Carolina

Ya'll just take that in for a minute, and then apologize for even thinking he deserves to be in the top 10. Look at those fugging ball skills! EW!!!

    • I'm not sure 19 is too high for Rodriguez anymore.  He looks to be moving up boards, but it could be smokescreens.
    • I see XL this way---great athlete.  Good person.  When we drafted him, we knew he was raw.  One year of WR in college (starting) and in HS, he was a QB, I believe. We knew we would need patience with him.  I think year 3 will be make or break.  He is older, and I think that people with his athletic ability have always been better than those with less---but those with less can become more successful.  Why is that?  in my view, it is mental. XL can learn the mechanics and nuances of playing WR if he becomes focused on it and works at it.  I had the opportunity to talk to Armanti Edwards one day after OTAs (great guy) and he discussed how overwhelming it was.  He seemed shocked.  At that time, I knew that Fox hated the pick (I heard him mock Armanti to another coach when he saw Edwards drop a punt from a jugs machine--then I saw Armanti look back at Fox as if to suggest that he was feeling the pressure to please the coach. We forget that these are kids in their early 20s.  At the time, Fox was a lame duck.  Remember when he had Clausen as the #3 QB and was forced to move him up the ladder?  I liked Fox, but I think the climate and culture was influenced by the politics.  Currently, I see another Wr from SC who is struggling, but he is ina  very nurturing, positive culture. Let's see what happens with XL.  I am frustrated too---but XL was a second round talent who was raw and we traded up to get him.  He had 500 yards as a rookie--lets call 2025 a sophomore slump and see if we can't get at least 50 yards per game out of him.  If not, cut bait.
    • Sadiq feels like a lazy comp.  Sure he would be a big improvement over what we have but at a position we don't and maybe can't (midget qb) utilize.  I hope the staff puts together a list of players you automatically take at 19 (Freeling, Lemon, Downs, Faulk) and if none are there, trade back to look at (Thieneman, McNeil-Warren, Proctor, Lomu, Allen, Iheanachor, Banks, Woods).  I get the people that think an OT would be a waste because we temporarily patched that hole, and ILB and safety are a waste because that is high to take those particular positions, but by trading back we get extra picks to fill every need.  A draft that has an OT, S, ILB, slot WR, and C would really put us in a good position moving forward if we get an extra first three rounds additional pick.
