Stephon Gilmore A True Option

Gilmore's perceived lack of performance is somewhat traceable to other factors:

1. Lorenzo Ward (his position coach at USC) is not a very good DB coach. The secondary, as a whole, was constantly out of position and just weren't well coached. For instance, in many of Gilmore's "lesser" moments during his sophomore year he was actually trying to play his man and make up for a missed assignment by a safety at the same time.

2. Although the USC defense has totaled a lot sacks over the past few years, our former defensive coordinator rarely, if ever, blitzed. QB's have a lot of time to throw against the USC defense and there's only so long that you can cover someone.

What I think is telling about Gilmore is he made a play at the end of the USC-NC State game 3 years ago that won the game. He was a true freshman in his first game and he broke up a pass in the endzone that would have won the game for NC State. He's fearless and he's aggressive, which I like.

I don't know if he's good enough to take at #9 but I like him better than Kirkpatrick. The best memory I have of Dre Kirkpatrick is getting abused by Alshon Jeffery.

And the excuses keep comin...

That's what happens when a prospect comes from a Carolina school. Half of these users like the Cocks.

Well, they were kind of blowing that team out.... I know when I played, I became less motivated when we were blowing out a team. That is all I can think of for that performance. He obviously has more talent than that, when he is shown against higher ranked teams with more talent.

My post doesn't advocate one way or another for him. Just providing information that I thought some mind find interesting. Of course I've only watched every single one of his games in college, so what do I know?

If we were drafting based off of school allegiance I'd rather have Ingram. But he's not what the Panthers need...

I watch every USC game also and Gilmore is not an elite corner. USC has one of the best pass rushes in the country and Gilmore still got torched many times.

Information that would otherwise be unknown to people who don't follow the team as closely = excuses. Good logic there, bud.

What's the saying...obvious troll is obvious.

Edit: You're from LA. That explains a LOT.

Apparently Gilmore isn't a stupid selection after all. Here is another good link concerning CB's

This is a premium position people that needs addressing

if you've only watched every single one of his games in college then you know that Gilmore sucks at man coverage. A #2 CB should be very good at man

Hahaha I love how this is coming from a user named Gamecocksmitty. Obviously offended that his sub-par corner is being exposed as an overrated prospect.

And are you really going to judge some one based on where they live? That is one of the most ignorant things I've ever experienced on here. Please tell me what that explains, Cock.

Exposed by who? Everyone else says he is the second best corner in the draft and could possibly be off the board in the top 10. Only one saying this is you? Do you like to be different or something? Or is that he is a Gamecock and that rubs you the wrong way?

    • There are 98 NBA players that have more points in the paint than our superstar. That isn't a ref problem.
    • I don't really get the Cam parallels. Cam was a monster and even with the refs not giving him his due he still ate. Where it finally had an impact was when they let defenses headhunt him. There are probably some refs that don't like LaMelo for reasons people can determine on their own. But I think most of the noncalls are due to us being a small market team and the league and the refs just giving zero fưcks if we continue to exist. At the end of the day it's up to LaMelo to rise above it all. Nobody is out there trying to take his head off. He needs to add some bulk in the offseason assert himself and get physical in the paint and take any fouls that might come along the way and gradually you will see the tide turn. But nothing is going to change for the better for him or the team if he just continues to limit himself to acrobatic threes from halfcourt. That's just the reality of the situation.
    • Terrence Brown Jr. Scored 19.9 and 3.8 apg for Utah. He had a visit today, Juke Harris had one yesterday. Word is Knox is following Martin to UNC.  Avdalas committed today Jarin committed to returning  Young committed to returning  Adams committed to enrolling  Last I heard Mingo is still committed  So right now the roster is as far as I know.  Mingo, Adams, Avdalas, Young, Knox, Matlekovic, and Stevenson.    Veesar and Juke both have significant offers from UNC.
