Definitely Not Mel Kipers Latest Two Round Mock

I would love these two picks, but I personally think that Thomas Davis won't even make it halfway through the season. I love the guy, but for one to wishfully think that he isn't a MAJOR question mark is stupid. I would be totally content with seeing Kuechly rotate with Davis, to help prolong what's left of his career (and then Kuechly can take over when the time comes). Just curious, but how long does everyone else think TD has left? Do you think he can make it through the entire season?

I would be impressed if Davis played 4 games. I no longer pencil him in taking up a starting spot.....can't at this point.

If Luke is drafted. Beason might move as well if TD is ruled out. That is something some just can't accept.

I want Kuechly. Hopefully we can trade back a few spots and get him, but if not take him.

The only way I dont want Kuechly is if Claiborne or Blackmon falls to us.

Dude is a baller, people saying otherwise apparenty dont know what they are talking about IMO.

(and yes, I agree. I dont think that Davis will make it past 3 games, so OLB is one of our top needs.)

Mel Kiper is an idiot.

I didnt know if this was Mel's actual mock (I thought he said we would pick Poe.)

Or if this thread is an inside joke or something.

I dont care what Mel Kiper thinks, I want Kuechly

It is Mel's last Mock. Once people were force to go back and watch Poe play football.....things changed

It's a joke that started earlier in the thread. I don't care what Mel Kiper thinks either.

Poe would be a great value pick at number 9 if we were drafting for powerlifting competitions. For football no... just no. I'd be thrilled with him in the second tho, the kid does have potential and obviously there are no questions about his strength, speed or size. NFL coaching might be what he needs.

I love Kuechly but I don't think the Panthers should take him at 9. I like Beason being in the middle and Davis is the big question mark. We can get some of the top OLB prospects in rounds 2-4 (maybe trade into the third for someone). I wouldn't be the least bit dissapointed if we took him, I would just prefer the Panthers to use that pick on a different position.

I disagree about Beason being forced to play WLB if we draft Kuechly (which is what I think you were saying?). Just because Kuechly played MLB in college doesn't mean we would automatically put him there. Does anyone remember Beason's 40 time when he came into the league? I'm pretty sure it wasn't 4.58, which is what Kuechly ran. AND Kuechly supposedly has instincts that parallel Beason's if not surpasses. I would take Kuechly on the weak side any day of the week.

Not saying forced. Nothing is ever definate. But if you bring in Luke and Davis is done..... that would be a realistic possibility.

I don't think it matters. Luke and Beason on the field together would be a good thing. Doesn't really matter who would play where.....if Luke is what he projects to be.

Luke can play WLB. Beason could. That is a positive of not passing on talent for need. Talent will get on the field.

Oh I don't think he will be forced to play WLB. We KNOW for a fact Beason can play WLB and I'm like... 95% sure Kuechly can. Beason also ran that 40 injured so it probably would have been higher. No offense but I think the 40 is without a doubt the most overrated and pointless method of measurement for football, especially for the linebacker position who do nearly all of their football movements either backpedaling or laterally.

What I'm saying is if we want to invest in drafting a WLB, why not get one of the top prospects at WLB in the later rounds? The only reason Kuechly is expected to go in the first is simply because his natural college position was MLB, which comes with a much higher price tag. Kid is a great player but I just think taking him with a top 10 pick isn't a good value.

Rookie wage scale makes the price tag less of an issue. Hurney also has a tendency to take sure things in the 1st round, so I wouldn't be surprised if Kuechly is the pick.

Whether LB is the biggest need or if you could gain similar value by drafting an LB later is a big question. Still would you rather have somebody you're 95% sure will succeed (Kuechly) or at best 70% (all the DTs and Copley)?

I have a feeling they'll go not BPA but BSPA (Best Safe Player Available), which is where DeCastro and Kuechly come in.
