Newcastle had some financial issues that saw them relegated but they bounced back nicely this year.

yeah but they have more issues than just money.... wait is this turning into a soccer thread?

The Panthers def overpaid their players to make a point. We asked them to pay players but we meant sign a free agent or two. Not just give the old players a raise. Still, we had quite a bit of money sitting out games last year. Thomas Davis had a huge cap figure and Jon Beason made a bunch to. Deangelo made a ton of money for someone that splits time in the backfield. I love Shockey but his stats were not in line with his wages.

Keep in mind that part of the reason we paid so much was because we were so bad in 2010 that no one wanted to play for us unless we paid a premium price. We would have lost Johnson to Atlanta for the same money. We got him because we paid so much. This year has been different with guys actually wanting to play for us.

The top MLS players make like $2-4m while the bench warmers make $20k. The soccer leagues are in serious trouble because they don't have salary caps. All of the big clubs are in hardcore debt. The Glazers (own the Bucs) have like $1.5b in debt from Manchester United. The small clubs have tons of debt and never win anything.

So I'm glad the NBA and NFL have figured out how to keep franchises from losing so much money they have to fold.

United is only around 400 million in debt atm. The club is valued at around $1.5 billion. That being said, I don't understand how one of the top 3 clubs in the world is ever losing money.

Just saw this...

Bobcats at 49th with an avg annual pay of $3,860,136 and an average weekly pay of $74,233

Panthers at 95th with an avg annual pay of $2,547,059 and an average weekly pay of $48,982

Hurricanes at 130th with an avg annual pay of $2,228,864 and an average weekly pay of $42,863

Thanks for the two 3-pointers you made this year Matt fugging Carroll. Worst contract ever.

It appears my numbers are dated. They have been paying them off recently. Makes sense. United hasn't bought anyone worth a damn in years.

While I see your point Charles Johnson said he was "blown away" by the number he was offered. Perhaps he would have been more than happy with a smaller number. We didn't need to pay Deangelo, we had a younger equally talented running back. We could have low balled him and at worst walk. We had to pay Beason and Kalil in my opnion, no problems there. What did we give TD? A 9m signing bonus? He would have signed for less, that was not a business move.

Just to sum it up I feel like we could have saved 5-10m in cap space and kept everyone. Worst case one or two guys walk and we have to start over.

You've quoted £'s, not $'s. Man Utd are worth about £1.7 billion and owe about £400 million.

The place I'm from is second bottom, I'm surprised they even made the list.

Hindsight is 20/20. Johnson had made some tweets suggesting he was interested in Atlanta close to where he played college. WIlliams was considered critical to a team with a rookie quarterback who was supposedly going to need run support. Rumors were that Denver was pursuing him and that Stewart refused to negotiate a contract. Beason is given a pass but honestly we didn't have to sign him last year and if we had waited would be getting him for less. As for TD, he only got the signing bonus which averaged around 2 million a year over the life of the contract. Not that much if he played last year. I think that your version of what we could have saved is best seen after the fact not when you are negotiating with agents and don't know the future.

They will this summer. David Gill already said there will be a lot of activity this summer. Crossing my fingers for Eden Hazard, Luka Modric and Nico Gaitan.

Sad part is I know better than that too, haha. I play football manager with the currency in £'s to keep the numbers consistent with where they are for real.

I've always said Jerry has never shied away from spending money, it's always been the short sighted Panthers fans and reports who have said this by only looking at the 09 and 10 seasons, you can excuse reporters because you can't expect them to remember everything about every team, especially something like a teams spending habits but fans that claim to be in the know should be aware of this.

So yeah I'm calling a big "I told you so" on this one
