What Is Gantt's Problem With James Anderson?

Well it's not your money so who gives two sh*ts.

Anderson has been a top 10 tackler for the past two years so quit bitching

i do give a poo when this team can't spend money to fix any other hole on the team because they spend a disproportionate amount of it mainly at two positions and so should you

You have to spend money either way to keep holes from being at every position. We payed James to be the guy at SLB. He is an above average SLB in my opinion as well. Once again paying 4.4 million dollars for an above average SLB and a two time top ten tackler isn't absurd so quit acting like it.

is he a top ten tackler on third down though?

He's not a great pass rusher but he is average and he is a good run stopper. Kuechly was brought in to hopefully be our pass-rusher.

Oh and in 2010 he was a good pass rusher but I guess it's difficult to be a good pass rusher in 2011 when you are the only player on defense that commands attention. You know damn well Jason Phillips, Kion Wilson, and Jordan Senn aren't going to help out Anderson.

um actually all indications are that Kuechly is playing the weakside, and if you understand the type of defense we play you'd know he's going to be dropping in coverage most of the time on passing downs

Well in that case, Anderson will have to go back to his productive year in 2010 when he was a top 10 pass rusher at the linebacker position. Also in 2010 he had Beason and Connor that were able to alleviate some of the attention off of him.

It shouldn't be hard for Anderson to dig deep and turn his performance back to the 2010 season's productivity.

Kuechly hasn't proved to be a pass-rusher, our best pass-rushing LB is Davis by far.

But to say he wasn't brought in to the Panthers to try and be a pass rusher is stupid. They are hoping to teach him that and I'm sure Belin and Rivera can get it done.

And I wouldn't even say Davis is our best pass rushing linebacker. Both of Davis's and Anderson's best seasons resulted in 3.5 sack seasons. The only other season Anderson has started resulted in a 1.5 sack season which tends to be Thomas Davis's average sack season.

Kuechly should be our new SLB with Anderson at WLB. We used our top 10 draft pick who's strength is pass coverage. Would be stupid not to have him lined up over the TE.

I agree, that way we don't have to teach him anything as he will usually be dropping back in coverage on the tight end and coming up and stopping the run.

    • At this point, I think Chubba is the odd man out. I hate that, but I think Dowdle gives us more production and big play ability.  But there is still a lot of football to play.  I think it depends on how much Dowdle will want too.
    • I’ve been anti-trade when it comes to Melo, but the way this season has started, it may be time.  I love his game and he’s a cool dude, but I’m starting to think, if he’s your best player, you’re never going to win anything of significance.  Too many brain farts, too many injuries, and ultimately for as fun and entertaining as he is to watch - his game is indeed a thing of beauty - it just doesn’t translate to wins.  And that’s IF he even plays.  I think it’s time to cash out and maximize the return.  I love Melo, but I think it’s pretty clear what the ceiling is for a team where he is the best player.
    • Every NFL team, college program, hell even HS has numerous "what ifs" that got derailed by injury. It's a brutal sport and half the battle is just getting lucky enough to stay healthy. Doesn't matter how durable you are and how well you take care of your body everyone is one weird hit or awkward twist away from a career derailing injury.
