Keep An Eye Out For Ryan Van Bergen

Recommended Posts

That was 2010 and it wasn't a highlight reel, it was game footage.

Game footage is something that is more valuable than a highlight reel because you get to see what each player does and does not do well.

I couldn't find game footage from the 2011-2012 season so I posted the video of Michigan vs. Connecticut in 2010 and I posted the video solely so you and other individuals interested could see the versatility of Van Bergen not provide a good video full of sacks and tackle's because that's not my job.

If you want a highlight reel, you can go on YouTube and find one lol.

Van Bergen is listed as DE, he can play DT and I believe he lined up on both sides. He's obviously not going to take Johnsons spot.

Norwood...gone

Tucker.. Meh...

Chandler... Same boat rookie.

Ogembi... Don't know man

I just believe Van Bergens versatility will help him make this roster.

This could just be because I graduated high school two years ago so I have been accustom to watching football at every level (high school, college, and pro) but in my opinion defensive systems and not being able to adapt from a 3-4 to a 4-3 or vice-versa is so overrated.

Some of the defenses high school's use are really complex and when they graduate they have to learn a new system and then when they graduate from college they have to learn another new system. So at the least, NFL players are going through two to three different systems and to me when I see a player like Van Bergen that plays in different defensive systems I instantly think versatility.

Put what type of defense they run on the back-burner, now I'm not saying it's not important but I think a players versatility speaks more about their game then what system they came from and what they aren't accustomed to. After all, every player is the product of a different system and they all eventually have to learn one system to make their NFL dream a reality.

To me, a players versatility (i.e Clay Matthews, Julius Peppers, Mario Williams, and DeMarcus Ware) speaks more volume about their game and ability than any previous defensive system can.

    • Rags lost again. All is right in the hockey world.
    • He’s responsible for two drafts classes. The first was one of the worst drafts I’ve ever seem. The second one is showing a ton of promise. I’m somewhere between skeptical and hopeful on Morgan.
    • I'm a big fan of Dan. His ability to find productive players deep in the draft will pay off.  I'm going to give him 1.5 draft classes right now, because I do think it's a little unfair to evaluate his first year when he got the job in January, especially when we went into that draft not having a first round pick.  XL and Brooks are still big time TBD players. Both still have incredibly high ceilings, but both have also given us legitimate reasons to have a lot of pause. Trevin Wallace, Chau Smith Wade and Jatavion Sanders have IMO outplayed their draft position early in their careers. That's a great thing. He also got Coker and Demani Richardson as UDFAs that year. Given the situation we were in, I really don't mind the gamble on the high ceiling guys. Still may work out, still may not, but if you made a checklist of ideal situation for an NFL GM to walk into, ours was near the bottom of that list.  Every single 2025 pick is contributing in some way. That typically doesn't happen. I am absolutely blown away by this draft class 6 games in. Even the best GM's miss on occasion, and we can't expect Dan to be 100% on drafts moving forward. Ryan Fitzgerald was an excellent find as well.  Comparing our last two drafts to the previous few is pretty shocking. Can you imagine this season without our Rookies? It would not be good. Additionally, this roster only has 6 players with more than 6 years of experience, and two of those are specialist.  The next step is equally important, and still very much TBD. We have to avoid Cap Chaos.
