just two men talking sports, nothing more. no need to put shanahan up on a pedestal and be overly respectful. i'm sure shanahan appreciates it.

From his perspective I imagine he doesn't care about the opinion of anyone that is not directly "in" football.

I haven't filed in over 15 years.

Pm me your full name and ssn. Got some new friends for ya.

Anyway.

I don't know, of all the coaches to approach not related to the panthers. Shanahan? I would have kept walking.

only if he's a pompous prick. obviously he won't use these discussions to run his football team but why can't he just "chill" and talk sports?

Because that is what he does all day.

Do you like to talk about work all the time?

Why can't people understand that when these "stars" are "off work" they don't want to talk about some random persons opinion and what the public thinks the NFL is?

again, why are you putting him on a pedestal? he is your equal. every man (well, most) enjoys talking sports.

i understand not to hound them by asking for autographs/insider info/etc but there's nothing wrong with sitting there and debating sports topics like you would do with any other regular guy.

Actually, if you think about it, I am taking him off a pedestal.

He is just a man. When people are off work they often get asked the most ridiculous questions about their jobs and often hear the same things they have heard a million times.

Is my train of thought really that far out there? It is not about one instance either; can you imagine how many times per day he runs into the same issues?

it's not. we'll just agree to disagree i suppose.

would it be different if they started casually talking about basketball instead of football?

He's faster and more accurate than Cam. Maybe not as strong of and arm but RG3 still has a rocket no doubt. He's a much better passer than Vick was it this point in their careers, Vick is more shifty and Cam is much more powerful as runners but its a different offense RG3 will be working in. He will not be asked to take a pounding the way other so called "athletic" quarterbacks were. He's a passer 1st and foremost. Nevermind the speed. If he was as stiff in the pocket as Kerry Collins he still would have the skills to excel in the NFL. On the other hand reading defenses, speed of the game, staying healthy, we'll see.

Let's wait to see RG3 play in an NFL game before we start comparing him to Cam.

    • Welp, he just joined Parsons in Green Bay.
    • That was always the fear, expectation, concern, etc, I had.  Someone showed a still shot from his pick last game and said it showed that the defender closed 3 yards on that ball in the last portion of its flight. I forget the number. 10 yards I think it said but that sounds extreme.  When guys are open by a step, any slowing down to wait for the ball lets the defender back into the play. That sort of stuff makes the margins so small… these NFL CBs are not slow.   It is a league that highly values foot speed; the 40 times and drill times are scrutinized down to the hundredth of a second when evaluating these players on both sides of the passing game. Receivers and defenders both.   My thing with his arm strength (or anyone’s) was always “why do you want to do that? Plus pay extra picks to put yourself in that situation?”. Asking for trouble.     I wish there was a way to measure velocity on the back half of a throw compared to when it left the hand. Or really get accurate reading of the flight time of a ball from the near hash to the sideline, 10 yards down the field. Because teams could use that info. I have always seen this as being a disadvantage with Bryce but it is beyond my ability to quantify it.   I think it would show what that arm strength is really about, a lot more than just measuring how much air can you put under it so it will fly as far as possible.
