Nfl.com: Stafford's Great, But Newton's Better

I've always found it interesting that in a comparison of players the home fans will argue how the other guy sucks in order to make their guy out to be the winner. In essence they are just belittling their own guy. Their can be and are more than one good player at a given position. It's what makes the sport fun to watch.

I think stafford is one of the next great qb's. Even lions fans have to realize if you shut down the passing game you shut down stafford, but if you shut down the panthers passing game you still haven't shut down cam. Just being honest

I really don't like this whole comparison game. I know Cam's a superstar and people like talking about him, but it's time for him to just play his game and prove it to everyone.

That's the fun of the offseason I guess.

Let's put this in perspective...Last season was Matthew's first real season of full QBing since being drafted in 2009. He's has been recovering from injuries after injuries.

IMO, it seems as if the QBs these so called experts have annointed as the "best" QB each draft season get away with so much simply because they were painted that way by these folks.

It took Matthew three good years to do what he did last season and folks are acting like the Lions were not a team on the up swing from 2009 to 2011. When Matthew finally stepped up and played a full season of football he did it with a way more stronger team than when he was first drafted.

I don't get why these folks are always trying to created so much hate and animosity towards Cam by comparing him to other QBs. How come no one is comparing Luck to Matthew or Sam to Matt and Luck?

I agree with you. I happen to be a Giants/Jets fan and I am not afraid to say that Aaron Rogers scare the heck out of me when Eli and the Giants play GB. I am not afraid to say that Tom Brady is a damn good QB.

I can also admit when way too much credit is given to a QB when it's the team who is helping him look good and not so much him proving himself as an actual player.

Cam has proven himself as an actual player in his position as a QB. I'm sure as competitve as he is, he would gladly take the wins over his personal accomplishments. But IMO, those personal accomplishments were meant to be because it showed the world that Cam as a QB is the real deal and not just him being surrounded by good receivers alone. He HELPED the Panthers.

IMO, Cam's ranking on this NFL Top 100 may have more to go with how those behind the scenes seeing him as an over-all athlete and not just a QB and his real asset to a team.

Matt has finally proven himself as a really good QB with great WRs around him? Cam has proven that he will do whatever it takes of him to win, working with whomever he has around him.

I think it boils down to the Lions fans...similar to the Aints*...they have been the doormat of the NFL for decades and FINALLY have a winning season...only to have Cam come out as a rookie on a 17 year old team and run circles around their 'franchise' qb...I would be pissed too....bwhahahahahahaha

Oh, now I understand why you got so mad, when I brought up me not liking Sanchez, LOL You are a Jets fan......

This just may be the best thread ever imo. As a life long Lions fan it is nice to finally have a QB people respect as a franchise type QB.

That said. I would take Cameron hands down. His althletic ability puts him in another category. When the wins start coming people will not be able to ignore Cam, or us.

In the near future Cameron will be in the mix for best in the game. As of now, he has shown the talent. All he needs to do is put in the time, and win a few important games.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
