Harrison Barnes: Matt Carroll redux?

Oooh wee mayne... What's with the Barnes Bashing?

It's the one thing Barnes has in common with Cam Newton & LeBron James.

He handles it well. The fact that Harrison Bryce-JORDAN Barnes wasn't the least bit phased by working out in front of Jordan, who he personally reveres spoke volumes. He'll handle pressure well, and would likely push himself harder under Jordan to try to get him a title as an owner.

I'd much rather have a trade that brings in a vet like Rudy Gay then any of the scrubs in this draft.

It is not even close... Get the developed young product with off the charts potential. Barnes, Beal, Robinson have huge question marks that I cannot see a no.2 pick for them. If Gay is a possibility get him!

The Barnes jock sniffers are all upset.

Sorenson is not saying Barnes will have Matt Carrol's career...just that Barnes' strength is similar to what Carrol can offer...and that Barnes does not demonstrate a difference making skillset...just some dude....that you can get in most drafts ala a Mike Miller 3 seasons ago or even Marvin Williams.

Problem for me is I have soured on Beal watching a few Florida games where he was lost, no instincts on defense and has average Bball IQ. Only seen three games so I do temper that opinion.

Of the Carolina guys at least Kendall Marshall has a skill set that posseses elite court vision and passing skills. He is not the defender Jason Kidd was but offensively but has something elite to build on.

The game footage over on Tarheelblue.com proves you wrong on each of these. He's more than capable in each area. He only did so opportunistically, though.

I don't need to go to their athletic website. I live up in the Triangle and have season tickets to the Tar Heels games I know what Barnes did and did not do at UNC.

However, unlike you; I'm not a homer.

George W. Bush was President, and he was still clueless.

Where you live or how many games you went to is completely irrelevant. People see what they want to see.

I see Harrison Barnes as Luol Deng

You see Harrison Barnes as MJ 2.0.

I see Harrison Barnes as Harrison Barnes because I see no need to make a comparison to previous players. I see Beal as undersized for what the Bobcats need, Gilchrist as a poor shooter, and Robinson as a worse long-term prospect than many of next year's big men.

I think we got off on the wrong foot,

I love Harrison Barnes and wouldn't mind if we took him at all. To me, you have to go Thomas Robinson or Harrison Barnes.

1. Thomas Robinson gives us a potential starter at the power forward position and it really sets our power forward position for the future. (1a: Thomas Robinson, 1b: Bismack Biyombo, 2: Tyrus Thomas, and (Possibly 3: D.J. White).

2. Harrison Barnes gives us a go to scoring threat at the small forward position and it allows us to amnesty Maggette. (1: Harrison Barnes, 2: Reggie Williams, and (Possibly 3: Derrick Brown).

3. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist gives us a defensive leader, the only problem with Gilchrist is that it leaves us without a direct scoring threat besides Henderson. (1: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, 2: Reggie Williams, and (Possibly 3: Derrick Brown).

4. Bradley Beal gives us another scoring threat but it creates a log jam at the shooting guard position or it forces us to go super small at the shooting guard and small forward position. (1a: Bradley Beal, 1b: Gerald Henderson, 2: Matt Carroll).

5. Andre Drummond is a hit or miss and he either gives us a new starting center or another wasted draft pick. (1: Andre Drummond, 2: Byron Mullens, 3: DeSagana Diop).

This takes into account need, best overall prospect, and NBA readiness.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
