Football Gameplan's 2012 NFL Team Preview - Panthers

Not bad at all. A little overly optimistic about certain things - like Sherrod Martin, sorry but the guy just isn't very good. Beason will probably stay at middle, but we'll probably see alot of 2 LB sets just using Beast and Keuchly considering they both cover so much ground and are strong in coverage.

Hey... I gotta keep everybody aware of my Awesomeness :)

I agree. Overall I was thoroughly impressed with your in-depth analysis of the Panthers. I have to agree the big question on the offense is definitely the wideout/Tight end role, mainly the second in the depth chart.

The Defensive line is also a big question mark, but I remain optimistic. I'm expecting bigger things from all of them this year since they will have a regular off season unlike last year. Especially the then, rookies, now 2 year guys. With Edwards coming back that interior line may actually be decent.

I think a lot of people instantly dismissing the fact that the Panthers won 6 games last year in spite of horrific special teams and defensive injuries. You guys realistically should've beaten the Vikes, Bears, Saints* (once), Falcons (once), Packers AND Cardinals.. that was a potentially a playoff team right there in Charlotte

Not only this, but I think if we got into the playoffs as hot as we were, and if we were able to get a couple guys back, we would've won a game or two.

The last game of the year was the worst loss of the season.

Your point?

2008 Arizona Cardinals had lost to the Patriots something like 48-7. Then ended up in the superbowl losing on a last second TD with an 8-8 record.

Your next argument against your team please?

Our secondary is garbage outside of Gamble, though Norman is showing promise he is unproven. Godfrey is meh to be honest, not as good as advertised. Sherrod Martin is awful. Brandon LaFell is a legit #2. Beason is not better suited for weakside he is a MLB, Kuechly is going to be playing weakside. Other than those things I hear what you're saying. Only time will tell where we stand in the division, though I believe the Panthers can finally knock the Saints********** off their pedestal.

We're probably going to be in a lot of close games again this season. I think we'll be good enough to hang with the better teams like the Saints**, and blow out some of the worst teams. The biggest problem I see heading into this season is that we don't have a lot of talent in the secondary, and we're facing teams like the Saints** and Falcons twice. Also, we need Cam to audible, and I don't know if he's at that level yet or not. Should be a fun season none the less, and I've never been this excited about a Panther team.

    • I guess I should have stipulated outside the sacred cow.   I complained from year one that Bryce should compete for and win the starting job on his own merit but no he was just handed it. I have been right there with everyone that wants competition.  But I don’t really have a huge problem with it for this season the way it has gone because where are the viable people we don’t have to trade for? I actually am okay with tiny hands Pickett because he is so close to Bryce arm strength wise and to be honest, skill wise. Probably. And it is only a one year deal.  That also takes I to account that the QB class is looking stacked next year and if Young fails miserably then we get either a reset or a real competition and there will be more guys that I would like looking at in the FA QB class next year as well.    I sort of accept where we are this year and look at it as a treading water year. I just want to get to next year with some clarity. More than anything. And they did empty out the room. Again, who was really there for us?  And I know it would not be a true competition at this point anyway. They are giving him the year, like it or not.    Also I don’t give a poo about winning games IF he sucks and or goes down after sucking because draft position and that stacked QB class.  And I want out from under him So Bad.     So I guess it is several factors that lessen my anxiety over his backup this particular season.    I am not trying to convince anyone, but you asked.
    • What happened to King? Was he a no show?
    • think these smaller Qb's are going to have a much harder time convincing an NFL team to draft them. not saying a smaller Qb under 6 feet tall will not make an NFL roster .it will most likely be a UDFA contract more or less prove it deal.NFL teams have been burnt time & time again investing in these small NFL Qbs & i think  teams are now finally starting to realize that investing in these smaller Qb's under 6 feet tall is simply a bad idea  ...just saying
