Some Old Hornets Stuff

Recommended Posts

I was on the fence when the whole Hornets vs. Bobcats re-brand was at its peak. I loved the Hornets as much as I do the Bobcats, but I also wanted what was best for the team. If a re-brand meant more fans, then I was all for it. I don't want to lose another Pro Basketball team. And even though I know the team was named for its original owner, and that pisses off a lot of members on this board, I just care about the product on the floor and the direction this team is headed (which I think is very much up).

That being said, I will post (actually repost, I think I snapped this for a thread on this board a year or so ago) one of my favorite memories ever.

It was 1992 and I was 8 years old. Larry Johnson was my idol. So I wrote a letter (on notebook paper) to the front office of the Hornets. All I asked for was if he could sign the paper that I had sent him. Didn't need to be personalized. Didn't need to be on anything fancy. All I wanted was to know he read and signed a letter in which I expressed as much admiration an 8 year old could express for somebody so iconic in his life.

About 3 weeks later, the doorbell rang. No cameras. No team promotion. Just this:

A signed hat from the entire team that was personally delivered by LJ and Hugo.

I pulled some neat old stuff out of my parents attic. Brings back memories.

I also have tons more Hornets cards, Muggsy Autograph, and ticket stubs. Loved those days growing up in the 90s.

Your parents are racist bastards for kepping such items in their atic.

    • I'd love to have Eli as our QB. He was a proven baller in the playoffs, and still a legit franchise QB who was better than the majority of the league in the regular season. Honestly the Giants didn't build many great teams around him. Put him in a beneficial situation like Belichick, Reid, Tomlin, etc. run and he could've won more than 2 SBs if you ask me. He was on a lot of bad teams, like really bad teams, throughout his career.   Hell, swap him in for Rivers in the mid-late aughts and I bet he gets the Chargers a SB. Still think that whole draft situation was bullshit and lost respect for Eli there, but whatever.
    • Yeah but if you are talking about something like an extremely rarely used or needed play like a QB sneak, it's already a pretty off the rails argument. That doesn't factor in enough to W's and L's to be something that is particularly relevant.  If you want to talk overall arm strength, field vision, footwork, consistency, athleticism, etc on Bryce, those are all valid critiques of his game and why he hasn't been successful. But the oddball obsessions about pretty meaningless aspects are a bit bizarre. QB sneaks? Not enough 40+ yard passes? Workout regimen?? Guys....there is ample stuff to criticize without this kind of nonsense.
    • Im not saying he should, but its one more play that's off the table. Do you think the eagles would be as good without the QB sneak?
