the Steve Smith effect too amazing to design yet in new madden 10

Recommended Posts

One of the new features being presented in the next madden 10 is gang tackling with up to 9 players including offensive linemen (to push the pile). I was looking at their blog and while showing demostrations they get to the bottom and they show the exception to the rule, steve smith, he gets gang tackled in the houston game a few seasons ago and breaks out of about 9 tackles for the touchdown, sadly, their engine is not capable of simulating this and all they can do is "CLAIM" that a video will come soon of a broken gang tackling shown off.

I can only hope that the occasion is rare because... well.. it 9 times out of 10 will lead to a touchdown if you break the whole defenses tackle.

Steve Smith has been handcuffed in every Madden game. He's yet to be an effective player in madden. They can't seem to be able to acknowledge his incredible catching ability and jumping skills. The only play he's been ok on is the play action bomb and occasional screen.

Run him in short slants from the slot receiver position. Nearly 10 yards guaranteed every time with smith and you'll break it open 2 - 10 times for 40 + yards. Screen the hell out of him, and use a lot of out and in patterns and the occasional deep ball.

You're so wrong. Remember this, NO CORNER on madden can keep up in man coverage on drag routes right across the field, You just have to have a west coast offensive mind with him because the only dominating wr for fly routes is Moss, they made it really hard to outrun corners, (Even though Smitty is faster than Moss IMO) Use the run n gun playbook, Shotgun 5WR bunch, First page bottom right with smith on the drag

madden hasn't evolved quite enough yet.

sure they have their icons they give out like "speed" or "possession" receiver, but every receiver is unique in their style of play. Steve Smith doesn't play the same way as Santana Moss though they are the same "style" of receiver. He's hard to tackle but in Madden a DB touches him and he goes down like a ton of bricks.

Dude you just gotta use your highlight stick better, Smitty breaks AT LEAST one tackle 90% of the time, just flick it forward.

there's a timing delay in that stick. So i can use it, but by the time I hear that "grunt" the player does when you stick, he's already on the ground.

keep in mind the last madden i played was an Xbox version.

    • Most EVs are in the 90+ e-MPG meaning some measurement house somewhere compares the EV to a similar ICE model and works out how much is costs to charge (on average) versus fill up as a point of comparison. Talking long term, in the hundreds of thousands of miles?  No clue.  Some early signs are that EV batteries maintain 80% charge over 400k miles.  So there's that.   The challenge and charm of an ICE vehicle is being able to park it under a tree, get your jack stands out and tinker with your engine.  There's just not that same level of complexity in an EV.  I saw someone estimate there are 200 or so moving parts in an EV, and 2000 in an ICE vehicle.  I'm not a part counter so I can't really speak to that. I think that the EV is more the future than any type of combustion engine.  Those will still be around in specific purposes, but for most people - an EV will be the superior option in terms of efficiency.  I say that as someone who loves stupid horsepower numbers out of turbo 4 bangers and inline 6s...  I am one of those tinkers when I can be. A bigger issue for EVs is going to be the ownership versus lease.  Right now, there are INSANE leases on EVs, which is great, but what do you have at the end of that lease?  Nada, maybe some equity if you're lucky.  Where as I'm almost done paying for my car, and plan to keep it until the wheels fall off (or my son wrecks it when he starts to drive).  Will EV makers do the smartphone thing and build in planned obsolesce?  Stop updating software?  I love the tech in EVs, and I think getting more cars and trucks off the road is a good thing.  But I am still just a little concerned.  Capitalism has gotten far too extractive.
