Rivera mentions Nate Chandler

Recommended Posts

One thing I have noticed over the coarse of Coach Rivera's tenure here in Carolina is that when he mentions or doesn't mention a player to the media it is pretty significant. With that being said.

During a press interview today, Coach Rivera specifically mentions the play of undrafted rookie DT Nate Chandler. Other than the basics from the website (6-4, 300 pounds, UCLA) does anyone know much about him or what he has been doing at camp? He must be impressing some people to be mentioned.

Anyone got any insider information?

I remember reading that he was surprised NFL teams were interested in him. Had a poor college career. I haven't noticed him out there but I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Rivera was saying yesterday he thinks every guy on the roster can help this team and that's why they are in camp. That's nice to say and all but the reality is some guys are fodder.

Bell, Keiser, and Adams were all active at one point last year... so it's not unheard of.

Edit: Seyi Ajirotutu, Antwan Applewhite, Richie Brockel, Byron Bell, Thomas Keiser, Darvin Adams, J.J. Jansen, Olindo Mare, Ogemdi Nwagbuo, Andre Neblett, Jordan Senn, Mike Tolbert, Roger Allen, Josh Vaughn, Garry Williams, Kion Wilson, Bryant Browning, Jeff Byers, Joe Jon Finley, Greg Smith, Jared Green, Tauren Poole, Lyndon Rowells, Hubert Anyiam, Michael Avila, Brenton Bersin, Will Blackwell, Matt Reynolds, Lamont Bryant, Nate Chandler, Nelson Rosario, Ryan Van Bergen, and Rico Wallace are all former undrafted free agents who are on the current Panthers roster lol.

    • We agree here dawg. I'd love for Bryce to succeed as would all huddlers. I have not seen a single huddler hate Bryce for anything other than his play on the field / potential / skillset. He hasn't gotten any of the irrational hate having nothing to do with football that Cam got. And yeah I understood going into this season with Bryce again as there weren't a ton of options, but man we missed the fuging mark on upgrading at backup QB with someone who could actually push Bryce. Bryce had zero pressure on him with a 100% washed up Dalton being the only other NFL caliber QB in the system. That absolutely needs to change this offseason. Ideally with an actual starter upgrade but that seems extremely unlikely due to not having many FA options and a bad draft. But at the very least with someone like you mentioned, young/upside and/or day 3 pick in the draft.   Another note, we have a top paid and top performing OL, great young talent at WR incl. likely OROY, great RB group, average all around TE group, offensive coach with creativity in the system and good play designs (poor situational playcalling but still I put out current offensive coaching staff over Shula who held Cam back for instance). Not the absolute best situation for a QB to be in, but still a very good situation around him. And yet we have a bottom 8 offense (6th lowest points scored). Imagine taking a victory lap for a QB leading his team to the 6th lowest points scored in the league and the 22nd highest passer rating (despite being asked to do less than many other QBs; i.e. Bo Nix who isn't great either and has a slightly lower passer rating but Sean Payton actually lets him try to throw the ball deep and has him throw significantly more than Bryce). Crazy
    • similar to Atlanta and the NHL.  Atlanta has lost two NHL teams (and lost a minor leaguer).  Now there's another coalition pulling together another proposal for Atlanta to get an NHL expansion. While I'd like hockey to be back in Atlanta 'cause hockey is fun, I am skeptical that it'll happen based on previous teams' experience here alternatively: similar to Atlanta hosting a Major Tennis Tournament in advance of the US Open every mid/late summer.  Aside from the fact that Atlanta is said to be the country's largest Tennis playing city (with both USTA and ALTA, along with a number of side leagues) - playing tennis outdoors in Atlanta summer is miserable *and* they had difficulty attracting players... ticket sales were not good. So the Atlanta Open closed after 14 years.  They just couldn't make it happen, even if for all intents it appears to be massive tennis interest in the surrounding area.
    • So I saw where Luke was doing that show parallel to the game. Whatever it was, statcast something something, knew it would be a good watch. I don’t get ESPN any more but that would be one of the about few things I would watch outside of games.     He doesn’t fool around on the radio broadcast.
