It's looking more and more likely that Captain Munnerlyn will start again this season

If that's how you choose to respond. That's your choice. I understand your point.

It still doesn't change the fact that majority of DBs aren't much bigger than our Captain.

I'm still not saying I'm perfectly fine with a small CB as a starter, just know that it isn't as big of an issue as most people make of it.

It's something the entire league deals with. Many of the best DB's to ever play the game, and the best currently playing the game aren't big DBs either. In fact, most bigger DB's don't play as well, cause they don't have the agility the play the position as well.

But yes, lets harp how 5000 plus yards is going to change the size of DB's, so that it gives this debate even more legs to go on....and on....and on.

Captain is not a good CB...to suggest he's EVER played anything other than the slot passably is ridiculous. He didn't play well in 2010 when Gamble was benched, he didn't play well in 2011 (his only "good game" had nothing to do with his actual coverage, a good stripped fumble and ST play made the Minnesota game his only positive contribution to the 2011 season).

His biggest handicap isn't even his size, it's his inability to track and stick with WRs past 10 yards. That's why he's decent covering the slot guy, where his area of responsibility is limited. Any time he's tried to cover an outside WR he gets killed on moves, speed, height, everything an outside WR is supposed to do. He gets abused. He gets turned around, lost and confused. He's an excellent special teams guy, one of the best we have at running down a PR or KR and will have a spot on the team for a long time for that. But if he's our starting #2, LT in his prime, JP, Jared Allen, Demarcus Ware, Warren Sapp and John Randall couldn't make up for how badly he'll get exploited again.

pantherclaw, you referenced an era in the league where Jason Sehorn was considered a starting cornerback to try to justify why starting a 5'8'' guy who's probably at eye level with Larry Fitzgerald's nipples is a good idea in 2012. The concept that measurables and talent is getting to be more important when talking about cornerbacks is kind of like a no-poo thing right now.

It's not going to kill any chance we have of being competitive, but having him covering a 2nd WR is a liability that can be exploited and I would've preferred it if they did go and get a better CB, and if they wanted to, they could've easily mustered up the resources to bring in one.
