All Defense Nxt Draft - Fug it!

Our D is going to suck, because second year players never improve. Or returning injured players are never the same. Or because young players never grow into quality players. Gimps.

We are a young team on the rise. If the rate of ascension is not fast enough for you. You might like to go pick a team that is already good. That way you don't have to waste any emotions worrying about those pesky kids growing into productive players.

so you expect zero growth from our dljne and pass rush.

Your logic is flawed.

I didn't say that they wouldn't make any progress. I am sure they will just like most players. I am just saying they are definitely the weakpoint and I don't see that changing.

And I am not just saying this after 1 preseason game. These players are established players in terms of playing time. It's not very often players can have some big turn around.

You're definitely right, we've seen what these DT's can do with no offseason, time to prepare, no knowledge of the playbook, play schemes, or NFL Experience.

Now, let's see what they can do with all that before throwing them under the bus..

The last time I checked the majority of our DL are not rookies.

kris jenkins, also a third round pick, was a nobody until his third season.

We really need a number 1 WR. As much as I love smitty he probably has 2 seasons left at best. He's a small receiver that relies on his speed and his ability to jump up high for the ball to make up for his height. Once he loses a step he'll be useless.

Smitty gives us just enough time to draft a receiver in the 1st round next year and then give him a year to develop.

Isnt that what we been saying for a couple years now.

Its like deja vu over again every year. We say draft all Defensive players every year.

Though, we dont have a 3rd pick remember the Frank Alexander trade up.

Yes, its way too damn early, but this is what I want us to do.

-FA: CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie or Brent Grimes

-Draft (1st rd): Safety Robert Lester or Tony Jefferson (Eric Reid will be top 10 pick)

- (2nd rd): A DT

Jenkins was a 2nd rd pick.

Dont get your hopes so high on Fua and McClain. They are in no way, shape or form a Kris Jenkins.

Just bc Kris Jenkins did it, doesnt mean Fua and McClain can. Jenkins came out the draft being a pretty good prospect.

    • From Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/nutshellsportz.bsky.social/post/3mo3rkrcezs2e  A look at Run Threat Rate across the NFL Run Threat Rate is the percentage of plays where a team either runs the ball or uses play action. This compares each team’s rate when leading or tied versus when trailing to show how much they abandon the run when playing from behind.
    • That's the current dilemma on both parties at the moment. If Ickey comes back too soon, he won't be 100% and his play will suffer. Leading to a potential decrease in his contract. If Ickey is unable to play and sits the entire 2026 season, his contract will still take the same hit since it tells all 32 team that he is not fully recovered. On the Panthers side, I'm sure they would want to keep Ickey if he is fully recovered but he is obviously in a contract year. They don't want to re-sign him to a massive deal since it be too risky and they know if Ickey is able to return to form.  Best case scenario, the Panthers wants to offer Ickey a 1-2 year heavily incentive based prove it deal. However, Ickey would most likely decline the offer and test the market as  another team can come in and offer Ickey a better deal if they are desperate enough for O-line help.
    • They have been giving him a lot of snaps at RT to give TMo some relief in camp. I think that will continue for the time being.
