Pete Prisco weighs in on Stews signing.

Now, I imagine, what you are referring to, is actually the Williams contract. While I still never said, we need to pay for his past performance, it is no secret that the Panthers take care of their own, and if it wasn't for the CBA crap, Williams would have been extended long before he did. So you can go ahead and spin that however you want.

fuging idiot.

As far as his contract, williams earned that years ago.

So i have zero problem with the contract.

Until i see the oline run blocking consistently well, i'm certainly just going to cast judgement on any of our backs.

I realize i'm in the minority, but common sense isn't common any more.

Lol holy poo THE PACKERS SIGNED CEDRIC BENSON TO VET MINIMUM THAT MUST MEAN THEY'RE REALLY MAKING A COMMITMENT TO RUN THE BALL.

The Giants picked David Wilson because, well they really don't have very many holes and they let Jacobs walk, and the Chargers want Mathews to take a bigger load this season because Tolbert left and they need a little bit more durability out of the guy while they let Rivers chuck it for most of the plays and draft pass rushers in the first round.

Seriously how stupid does your justification sound in the context of what we're doing vs what they are doing? They're barely making any investment compared to us.

Cry about.

Some people really doesn't know how important something is until they loose it.

Yall be some of the first biatches to start crying if we had no running game

I couldn't care less if we got any more than 1600 yards given how obsolete it's become compared to yesteryear.

The problem with Prisco's point is that we are building a different type of offense that the NFL has yet to see, nor has much ability to stop.

Stewart is not just a running back in this system, he is arguably our number two receiver with the amount of check downs, screens, quick outs, and dump offs he catches out of the backfield. He is also key in the read option. If you look back at last year, most of our big gains on offense came off of read option plays (both executed and fakes). Stewart is the back that has a history running this and is most capable in regards to this.

In summary, Stewart wasn't paid to be a running back; he was paid to be a weapon

"Our philosophy the past few years" hasn't been working out. Referencing bringing in players like Lucas hearkens back to a time when the Panthers were a formidable team. When we brought in Lucas we had one of the best pass defenses in the league, 13 total interceptions between him and Gamble, and the Panthers made it deep into the playoffs despite having no RB depth at a certain point, and if you pinpoint that as the sole reason we lost against Seattle you'd be wrong.

By the way p55 are you arguing against us through that rant or are you arguing against your better judgment which is saying the exact same thing I'm saying?

What is there to argue. That Hurney has a failed philosophy that isn't working?? Seems to me it doesn't really matter since they don't really care what you or I have to say. That is the philosophy and your bitching about it does nothing to change it. So again if you want to root for a team that invests in big time free agents and makes lots of off season acquisitions then root for Philly or even the Saints* but not the Panthers.

As for bitching about his philosophy, you are like Don Quixote jousting with wind mills. A big waste of time and accomplishes nothing. Assuming that you even right and that is surely up for debate. But not by me since as I said, it is irrelevant anyway unless you become the GM which isn't happening.

It's just funny the lengths people go to when they're rationalizing what this team does in the midst of having been so bad in recent memory.

like P55's commentary before "YOU REMEMBER WHEN WE SIGNED FREE AGENTS AS WE WERE MAKING CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES? WE DON'T DO THAT ANYMORE! DEAL WITH IT!"

Actually Richardson discussed this point when we finished 7-9 in 2009 after having brought in a number of free agents over the past few years. He looked at the fact that other than 2008 where we went 12-4 in the regular season and were summarily kicked out of the playoffs by Arizona, we really have very little to show for that free agent strategy. We have not been to the NFC Championship game since 2005 which was 7 years ago. He stated that if he was going to have losing seasons he might as well go with younger cheaper guys.

Am I a big fan of that strategy? No I am not and had quite a bit to say about it in 2010 when we dumped all the veterans and went on the cheap. But I have learned to accept it as our philosophy for better or worse. I am tired of bitching about something I can't change. Try the serenity prayer, it works for football as well.

This I can respect. However you do seem to try to back up Hurney when we question his moves, and that confuses me as you do seem to understand football.

We just need so much help at positions and we continue to overlook them, while overpaying for others, is very concerning to posters like Kurb and myself.

    • this     I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who will run up their blood pressure to get to the grocery store 30 seconds faster or are racing to get to work like it won’t be there at 8:02.   The only thing I’ve ever done that I think added more years to my life besides quitting smoking, was to learn to go with the flow behind the wheel.
    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
