A new perspective on Byron Bell

Otah didn't play like a rookie O-lineman, nor did Maurkice Pouncey, Joe Thomas or Ryan Clady.

Bell being an UDFA, played as good as any Rookie player youd think should play like. Had a better season last year than a Tyron Smith or Gabe Carimi. And looked better than Jonathan Martin, a 2012 high prospect and 2nd Rounder.

LOL he did not play better than Tyron smith, and carimi only played a couple games before hitting IR

Actually he did get a penalty when he was in with the 2nd unit.

How does anyone know what player is charged with what? These refs call "Holding on 'White' or Tackle or Guard, etc., etc. Not only the Panthers games, but it's freaking ridiculous how some of them designate who committed the penalty.

I'm not for getting the regular refs back or not, just saying.

They specifically called Bell for the false start, by number.

I was being facieous, not disputing your point. My comment was more about these replacement refs & how they call things. The Panthers game have actually been called better than most.

One thing noteworthy about Bell so far is that he has done a much better job of keeping his pads level and his block within his frame. Very nice improvement over the offseason.

In fact, Hangartner seemed to be the weakest link out there yesterday.

Although the OL played well, I have to agree that Hangartner appears to be the weak link. He got run over on the pass play to Olsen when Newton got tagged by Soliali (sp?). The RG spot will definitely need to be addressed in the near future. It also appears that overall our OL is not getting enough push on the LOS but they did a great job on the goal line TD by Stewart. Yeah that's an insane statement.

I'd love to have Smith on our O-line, he's light years ahead of Bell.

I think Campbell, with a little more seasoning, will do well at LT when Gross steps down (or is moved to RT). Bell is solid, but he'll always be fighting to keep his starting job in the NFL.

Campbell is not our long-term LT option he's depth. That's it. We'll likely draft one in the next two drafts.

Still wish they would experiment win Bell at RG and Campbell at RT.

    • Biiiiiig eyeroll on this.  First, Look at historical stats of the most recent historical great DBs.  I plucked 3, Revis, Sherman, and Norman (cuzz he was our guy).  Combined post age 30, there are TWO pro bowls between those 3 and wanna get this...ZERO seasons with 16 games started.  ALL missed time.  It is RARE that Corners survive that long in the NFL and its about time we started recognizing this fact.  Jaycee is a good bet because it hasnt been anything seriously devastating injury wise, and with his sample size he could and should be an incredible piece for the panthers through age 30. Jaire kinda flops on the other side, hes 28...so hes under 30, but he wants his payday before it comes up, hes also been injury prone lately.  Bulk of the contract will be on opposite side of 30.  Will both of these guys help us be better in 2026?  SURE!  No doubt, but the question is, will these guys help us past 2026...not sure. The investment isnt worth the risk, nor would the ROI be anywhere close to worth it.  Neither guy is moving us from a 6-8 win team to a 8-10 team, period. My point is we're in this state a 6-8 win team IMO and he projects us as  a 4-6 win team.  EVEN if we think Jaire or Ramsey will make us a 6-8 win team, it in NO WAY is worth the money or capital to move that much just to suck kinda less.
    • I assumed he was retiring but apparently he plans on playing multiple more seasons.  Florida is gonna have trouble holding onto everyone.  Happens to all teams that have that much success.
    • I hate Marchand, but if he became a free agent.....
