A new perspective on Byron Bell

Still wish they would experiment win Bell at RG and Campbell at RT.

I think it is almost too late for this. Bell has too much invested in RT. Although I do think if Campbell could overtake Bell for RT, it could be possible to move Bell at that time. But I would think that would be something you would do in the offseason where you would have more teaching time. Not sure I even understand what I am trying to say.

Hangman is the weak link as of now. Take that as I believe Bell has been very solid so far.

Upgrade RG, sure, I can see that. I just believe that Bell is the best RT on the team. As of now. Until that changes, fixing RG will have to be done some other way. Not that RG needs fixing.

Otah didn't play like a rookie O-lineman, nor did Maurkice Pouncey, Joe Thomas or Ryan Clady.

Bell being an UDFA, played as good as any Rookie player youd think should play like. Had a better season last year than a Tyron Smith or Gabe Carimi. And looked better than Jonathan Martin, a 2012 high prospect and 2nd Rounder.

Smith was one of the best tackles and Bell one of the worst. They weren't even remotely close.

I think it is too early to make any prognostications on Bell this season. So far he hasn't had to face anyone with any talent in the first two games. Let's see how he does in the regular season first. Last year, he was statistically one of the worst at his position. Let's not turn it in to revisionist history and say he was good last year just because he was undrafted. Frankly, the fact that he is undrafted means nothing.

Otah was a first round RT which is pretty rare.Between Bell and Campbell we should be OK if Bell can reduce the number of penalties. If not he is a liability. He had so much ask of him being a undrafted FA.

Sunday against the Jets should be our first real look at Bell to see if he has improved

These first couple games he just looks more steady and has better footwork...didn't look bad against Houston and they have two good edge rushers

Our offense didn't do anything really....hard to chalk that one up as much of anything. OL in general couldn't handle the pressure and the offense couldn't move. Too small a sample.

    • Biiiiiig eyeroll on this.  First, Look at historical stats of the most recent historical great DBs.  I plucked 3, Revis, Sherman, and Norman (cuzz he was our guy).  Combined post age 30, there are TWO pro bowls between those 3 and wanna get this...ZERO seasons with 16 games started.  ALL missed time.  It is RARE that Corners survive that long in the NFL and its about time we started recognizing this fact.  Jaycee is a good bet because it hasnt been anything seriously devastating injury wise, and with his sample size he could and should be an incredible piece for the panthers through age 30. Jaire kinda flops on the other side, hes 28...so hes under 30, but he wants his payday before it comes up, hes also been injury prone lately.  Bulk of the contract will be on opposite side of 30.  Will both of these guys help us be better in 2026?  SURE!  No doubt, but the question is, will these guys help us past 2026...not sure. The investment isnt worth the risk, nor would the ROI be anywhere close to worth it.  Neither guy is moving us from a 6-8 win team to a 8-10 team, period. My point is we're in this state a 6-8 win team IMO and he projects us as  a 4-6 win team.  EVEN if we think Jaire or Ramsey will make us a 6-8 win team, it in NO WAY is worth the money or capital to move that much just to suck kinda less.
    • I assumed he was retiring but apparently he plans on playing multiple more seasons.  Florida is gonna have trouble holding onto everyone.  Happens to all teams that have that much success.
    • I hate Marchand, but if he became a free agent.....
