Panthers acquire special teams 'ace' Colin Jones from 49ers

I remember when people on this board were talking about how stupid the Chris Harris trade was, and how it didn't matter that he was a good player, since Mike Trgovac was a horrible coach.

Granted, Trgovac WAS a horrible coach, but Chris Harris also had a hell of a season that year and lead the NFL in forced fumbles.

Youre right, despite the large influx of dollars an talent into special teams this offseason, along with an additional year implementing the system and an additional assistant, we have absolutely no reason to believe Brian Murphy isn't a good coach.

#IFartRainbows #PanthersBestestEvah.

Tolbert + 2 decent ST players...isn't a huge investment into what was a squad that had horrible talent.

We haven't had ST talent in years. Give Murphy poor talent like last year....expect poor results

Seems like a proactive move. Murphy was pretty good in Minny and a highly sought after ST coach If i remember correctly. I still think the problem with ST is that we've moved to more of a directional punting rather than power punting scheme which is what everyone is used to. However, it hasn't exactly worked out with the guys we have and we always struggle with "no-fear" returners who always return despite coverage. We're still in transition.

I also wouldn't use preseason as a means to judge special teams, too many scrubs trying to make a play in hopes of making the team rather than playing disciplined. but oh well, it's gonna happen anyway. FIRE MURPHY! trolololo

What needs to occur is guys like the Raven S we acquired....NEED to play ST despite being promoted to starter. He was brought in bc of that ability.

If we just throw Martin out there...just bc....we will continue to be weak

Yeah, hope he works out...Omar Brown was cut by the Ravens & has some upside as a safety as well. Not sure if Brown does much on STs...but why give up on any pick at this time of year? We are not that far down the waiver claim process. Hurney certainly cannot be labeled as predictable (I don't mean that in a good way either! :) ).

    • Nothing wrong with it at all until you start telling others they are bad fans or not fans. But you are.    I did many years of that type of uninformed fanning because there really was no info and coverage like there is with the internet.    I mean, I used to go to the store and get Street and Smith’s annual football issue. That was about the extent of what you could get if you didn’t live in a big city with sportswriters covering and reporting.  There was no video to look at or replay the games and if you didn’t live in the market you could only rarely see your football team play.    TI have fanned since being a kid in the early 1960s, and as late as 1995 - ‘97 I lived in Atlanta and good luck getting more than 3 or 4 games a year on TV. No radio either. No print coverage outside of an AP recap and box unless they played Atlanta.  People today that have always had the network connection don’t know.    I wasn’t very educated about the Panthers until I finally got internet.
    • oh now that's what you call Mother Fiuggure fans the ones that always have this fierce protective shield around the team no matter if they win or lose  & to be honest there is nothing really wrong with being a Mother Fiugguer fan they just have a different meaning or sense of what a true fan really is                                                 ☺️
    • I'd gamble, miles josh green and 2-3 firsts especially if we could trade both this years and 1 future
