Who to Pull for: Week two edition

I used to do these a while back before the server crashed and some thought they were helpful. Basically the idea behind this thread, is to give you an idea of who to pull for and how it will help the panthers in their pursuit of a wild card or division title.

Some basics:

In 99% of the cases, we are going to pull for the AFC team to beat the NFC team (yes, that even means pulling for the hated Patriots to knock off the lowly Rams).

In 99% of the cases, we are going to pull against our division. This % drops down quite a bit as the season goes on and there will be times when we pull for our division to upset other NFC teams (i.e. the bucs beating a wildcard contender late in the year).

Weet Two: Who to Pull for:

Chicago at Greenbay: This one went the way we would have liked. Both teams now at 1-1 with a conference loss.: Check

Arizona at New England: Pretty easy one here, go with the Pats to send the Cards to 1-1. Who the heck saw this coming???

Minnesota at Indy: Pretty easy one here, go with the Colts to send the Vikes to 1-1. Check

Tampa at NYG: Pull for the Giants in this one. Bucs have a 1.5 game lead on us (1 for the win and the .5 for the divisional tie breaker) We will get a chance to knock off the Giants next week. Check

Baltimore at Philly: Another AFC vs NFC matchup. Go with the ravents to make the Eagles 1-1. Terrible offensive PI away from this one happening

Dallas at Seattle: Pull for Seattle here to even the records of both teams to 1-1. We will have a chance to earn a tiebreaker right over both of these teams in back to back weeks. Check

Washington at St. Louis: Pull for the Rams to even the records of both teams to 1-1. Check

Detroit at San Fran: Toss up: I'd go with the 49ers here. I believe they will win thier division pretty handedly, so having them beat up a potential wild card challenger is a good thing. Check

Denver at Atlanta: AFC vs NFC Divisional opponent. Easy one. Swallow your pride and pull for Foxy in this one.

If the Panthers Take care of business on Sunday and all falls our way, you'd be looking at the NFC in this way:

San Fran: 2-0

Detroit, Green Bay, Chicago, Minnesota, Arizona, Seattle, St. Louis, Tampa, Atlanta, Carolina, Philly, Dallas, New York, Washington: 1-1

New Orleans: 0-2

All in all, it was a pretty good Sunday for the Panthers. Would have been nice for New England and Baltimore to take care of business, however it was nice to be the only NFC South team with a win on Sunday. Here's hoping Denver and Foxy take care of the Falcons tonight.

st louis probably won't happen, but i can see it being one of those things that happen that just shouldn't have. there's always games like that.

my gut tells me to pull for the lions against the 49ers, but i think you're right about the lions being competition for a wildcard spot.

good stuff. i think there's a good chance that most of those shake out that way.

We lose and it doesn't matter. We'll be 0-2 and have a 12 percent chance of making the playoffs.

it all depends on what the other teams do. if the games shake out anywhere close to what the OP said should happen we would still have a good chance at least as good as many of these teams.

    • Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.
    • Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.
    • My top-5 JAGS: 1. Tommy Tremble: May not ever be top-tier, but has been solid and you never doubt the effort. 2. Cade Mays: Not bad for a 6th rounder. Hated to see him go. 3. Brady Christensen: One of the most versatile backup OLs in the NFL. Hopefully we re-sign him. 4. Trevis Gipson: Quietly was really solid depth last season. Glad we brought him back. 5. Brycen Tremayne: Has been solid depth at WR, flashing at times last year.
