Where are the Rivera-haters now?

After coming out flat last week, Carolina came out like a house on fire today. Only one 3-and-out that I recall, and inspiration all around. Rivera and co came with a plan, executed it, and we beat a hated divisional rival.

Deal with it.

I don't hate Rivera, but I do think that he needs to get into Chud's ear about running the overcomplicated run options when it isn't needed. Our backs, especially Deangelo, are being put into some rough situations because of how "cute" he's trying to get with a lot of the play calls.

There is a place for tricky run options, but they can't be your base running set, when they are not working.

Relatively minor nitpick though, since they were much less cute with the playcalling today.

This entire paragraph makes no sense, since our base running today WAS the read option and we were FAR MORE "cute" than we were even last week.

I saw Rivera override McDermott on a play call, which was great to see. I finally felt like he was actually coaching on the sideline.

Yeah, that was good to see....he saw something and called a timeout I believe and pointed it out that the D wasn't set up right for it.

But Rivera should of NEVER let Chud get cute on that 4th down near the goal. unneeded.

    • I have no strong opinion either way. I mean, for those who are out, do you really expect Tepper to hire anyone better? So far, Canales has probably been his best coaching hire. Granted, that's an extremely low bar to clear but I'm just saying it's not like there's a line of great candidates beating down the door begging to work for Tepper. Going 5-5 with the worst QB play in the league isn't terrible. Now with that said, I expect to start getting the hell beaten out of us now that the Saints have shown what I thought was obvious all along - sell out against the run and stack the box and absolutely force us to have to throw the ball and it basically makes the game unwinnable for a Bryce Young QB'd team.
    • You're letting your hatred for him cloud your judgement, you can't say with 100% certainty that Bryce can't play anywhere else, especially since everyone here said the same about Darnold and Mayfield and are now backtracking to say "well they had the skills all along"... absolutely nobody was saying that at the time. You are forgetting that the Panthers are currently a poverty franchise that taints everything they touch, it is absolutely in the realm of possibility that Bryce sits for a few years and then looks like Mac Jones does right now. But I agree that it won't happen here, and the Panthers have to move on.
    • That was me. Overall it has tightened up. Kickoffs are good. FGs are good normally. Punting game is good. PR isn’t bad. I didn’t see what happened on the block, who let the guy through. I knew we were putting a couple of new guys out there but thought they we gunner types. Chisena.
