Cam and checkdowns/screen plays...

Why do all of Cam's passes have to go for over 15 yards? Did Chud tell Cam never to dump the ball off or something? Is dinking and dunking against Chud's philosophy or is Cam just making things harder for himself by thinking he needs to get a huge gain with each pass attempt? I know it was all prevent defense when Anderson came in, but when he didn't find anything down the field, he just dumped it off to his running back and let him do the work.

Is Cam completely ignoring this aspect of the game? Is Chud not giving Cam an option to bail himself out when he can't find a receiver downfield? Is Cam just scanning the field and making only one read the entire time? Do option plays and checkdowns not work together? I would like some insight.

Idk, but the point that you can throw down the field accurately has already been proven so it's about that time to take what they give you. Whether is Olsen or a RB in the flat or a screen, whatever. I feel the offense has a lack of patience because of high expectations and mainly cause we're not 100 percent sure our D will keep points from going on that board

i've been shocked at how few slants we've seen thus far. they're a great way to establish a passing rhythm early in a game, and in a few of cam's excellent performances last year they started with a couple completions to underneath crossing routes or quick slants.

hopefully we will become more balanced as the season progresses.

Agreed Philly I wish we could find a healthy mixture of quick slants and short routes to get Cam in a rhythm and build some rapport early in the game with his receivers. Fact is, we just need to move the chains and points will come.

Get the run game going and keep a defense off balance and get them tired by having to deal with a punishing run game mixed with quick shorter routes. Then on obvious running downs burn them with the play action deep ball that Cam loves so much and has had success at.

I thought it was bizarre how the Giants were aggressive in their pursuit and rush against Cam yet we ran one screen as far as I can remember and Tolbert picked up a big chuck of yardage.

    • Smith-Wade for me. He has the path to some decent hefty snaps in Evero’s scheme. He held his own last year and improved as he continued to get snaps— If he makes some strides, could be a very capable nickel.  I agree with Sanders. Bryce had some trust in him that final Falcons game post crazy head-stand.  Bryce looked for him a lot that final game and made some critical catches to get us the W. Seems he’s put in major work so I’m hopeful about him.  Wallace will have an offseason under his belt. I like him a lot, was higher graded than most remember in his draft (I.e Brugler had him LB3/70 overall) but he isn’t as cerebral of an LB as we’re used to. I think he could thrive if we get D captain/film-junky type next to him— because right now that’s Jewell.  Still a bit cautious but love the talent. Rozeboom may snag some playing time from him if he’s still working out the kinks.
    • Didnt Canales already say starters are playing in the pre season? either way extra reps dont hurt but im not one of those people that think playing in the pre season would have saved Bryce from an awful start.
    • very helpful.  I read back in this thread where they might try Jarvis at C--I thought he and Aho had good chemistry, however.  Nonetheless, he could expand his value there, and now we have a guy who can play jarvis' spot.  Freddie is a pro, no doubt--and as little as I know about the inner workings of strategy and positions, I could tell Burns was burning us at times.  I figured he'd retire and I was looking forward to it.  FWIW, they have Jarvis listed as a C on the 2025-26 roster.
