Drafting a QB next year

i know this is way to early to be talking about. but with all the talent at the QB position thats gonna be in next years draft how would you feel about trading multiple draft picks next year to get back into the first to get our QB of the future...(if for some reason we dont get a first rounder for pep)

personally i think this would be a very risky move, and would only do it if there was someone that absolutely blew all the scouts away in wokouts

If a good QB falls to us, then I wouldn't be angry taking him. However, I would be opposed to trading away picks and using our first rounder (which we don't currently have) for a potential bust. Eventually though I think that a QB with the pedigree of say, Sam Bradford should be drafted by the Panthers.

It is way too early to be talking about drafting a quarterback until we see how this year pans out. If Jake has a good year and Moore looks very good in preseason, I can see quarterback not being a top priority. We could already have Jake's future replacement on the roster and could pursue other options like another top DE or a DT if we struggle in that area or Peppers isn't here. We are investing time and money in Moore. No need to keep going after the next greatest thing like we have done over the years until we know we don;t have him already. There is no sure fire guaranteed draft pick so it always somewhat of a crapshoot.

I agree. We still have a year ahead to see how Delhomme is gonna hold up for us. QB has never been a huge priority to Carolina anyways considering we don't run a heavy pass offense kind of game. I say we keep doing what we have been doing and see how it goes. I wouldn't dare throw away draft picks for some rookie out of college whom has yet to perform in the NFL. Our QB issues aren't a priority at this time IMO.

well, we have what is it 4 or 5 more years to see what delhomme does. but yes, matt moore will be our next leader at the QB position. I was watching his game today vs dallas, trying to cure my football withdrawals, and was really impressed watching him play vs the cowgirls secondary.

So you're saying it would be a risky move to trade our draft away for one player unless everyone was more than certain that the player would be a great one?

Interesting...

I find your comment interesting... hmm...

you could be onto something.

but to many your opinion is loathed and we cannot afford to NOT invest an entire draft in a top tier QB!

oh wait, that's Fox that is catching the bad rap for your exact opinion. But I agree with your statement.

would be nice to find "the one" of the future... perhaps we have him already.

    • overall agree on the draft grade as a whole on on each pick, but every time I read (and I have read it more than once) that we "gave up two firsts" for Bryce, I am confused. We gave up the 2024 first, but we swapped 2023 firsts, so we didn't give up anything there. We did give up our former first rounder in DJ, but I don't think thats what you mean as one of the "firsts" we gave up.
    • Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
