Plot Details From Red Dawn Reboot

Red Dawn (Remake 2010) Movie — By Nix on April 15, 2009 | ShareThis

Wolverine!!! Come on, who didn’t leave the theaters screaming the famous line from John Milius’s 1984 movie “Red Dawn”? Okay, not all of us. I was too young to have seen the movie in theaters and saw the film only later on DVD. Er, I mean, VHS. You remember them, right? Those box-looking rectangle thingies with, you know, film and junk? Anyways, they’re rebooting “Red Dawn” for a new generation. So what can we expect?

Latino Review has gotten their hands on the script by Carl Ellsworth (”Red Eye”). You can watch the full script review for yourself, and I would encourage it. Those guys put up some nice production values in their videos, and it definitely needs to be seen. But for the lazy among you, here are the important highlights:

- Former second unit director Dan Bradley (”The Bourne Ultimatum”, “Quantum of Solace”) is expected to make his directorial debut with the movie. He’s apparently going to be using the same handheld style on the reboot.

- The bad guys/invaders will now be the Red Chinese, who knocks off America in the first 20 pages, and gets help from those stinkin’ Russians later in the movie. The cause of the invasion? Oil, of course. There are hints that America is kinda to blame, too. In today’s PC environment, that’s not too much of a surprise.

- Our heroes: Jed is now a former Marine back from Iraq and Matt his high school star quarterback brother; Erica is now an Asian-American cheerleader; and Danny is the African-American star running back. Basically, all the original characters will return (including keeping the same names) but as different archetypes.

- The reboot will be very action-oriented. The original was rated PG-13, but it sounds like the reboot might go the R-rated route.

  • 1 year later...

If you watch it now, it's terrible. Overacted and poorly written. The idea was cool and the stars were likable.

As far as PC...in the original the Cuban general was portrayed as very sympathetic and the Americans were either the Wolverines, bombastic politicians or rednecks.

Best line was the Cuban General talking to the mayor about his son and his involvement in an elite paramilitary organization.....Eagle Scouts

    • Dude, I think I might be having Jarvy withdrawals... I ripped the sleeves off of all of my t-shirts in my sleep last night. Every bite of my Alpha-Bita cereal spelled Seth, this morning. And, I took 7 naps before lunch. I'm losing it guys! Jarvy's Jaunty Band of Jaggoffs are getting more play than he is... smh Team Canada doesn't treasure Jarvis the way he deserves. He should take his band down to Liechtenstein, get a bag of passports, and start his own Olympic team! The raw animal magnetism of Jarvilicious will bring in a handful of NHLers on its own. And, since the IOC believes in collective punishment, he could have his pick of the rookies. Then, just fill out the rest of the roster with the maple blooded great white northerners who couldn't make the top squad. Can't trust this assembled awesomery to just any old Liechtensteinien with a clipboard and a whistle. Gotta bring in a legend worthy of this gold medal gambit. A hockey HOFer with the balls to buck the system and the aura to match our maverick. Huere geil, Vaduz!!! 2030 Gold Medal guaranteed!
    • Tennessee isn't trading a QB on a 2nd round contract that has starting experience.  That's bad business.
    • OT is the top priority as it is both an immediate and future need.  I wouldn't be past trading up slightly to get the guy we want.  You need that rookie contract right now.  Icky is a dead 17.5 million for the season.  Morton is 20+ mil for the season, Hunt is 20+ mil for the season.  There needs to be forward thinking regarding the future.   Caleb Lomu is a left Tackle, he's a solid prospect, he may be the best pick for us now and in the future.  I would seriously consider cutting Hunt after 2026, and let Lomu and Icky fight for the LT job, loser moves inside.  Icky's future may be at guard after this injury anyway.  If Damien Lewis keeps up his level of play he will need to be paid sooner rather than later.  Yosh and BC can be our top two depth OL at an affordable price.  You will need to look at OT again in 2027. Getting an EDGE for the sake of getting an EDGE outside of the top 10 is pretty risky.  I wouldn't be against eyeing someone like Cashius Howell, Derrick Moore, or TJ Parker in the 2nd (even if we trade a future pick to move up) or DDS in the third. I'd love to see us try to sign both Leo Chenal and Matt Millano in FA.   Chenal for the blitzing element we are missing from our LB corps and Millano for his elite coverage.  They could both work in tandem.  Remember, our FO has deep ties to both KC and Buffalo. I love thinking about the draft, but until Free Agency hits, we are clueless.  Looking at the strength of FA and the draft, OL is priority #1, LB #2, and EDGE #3.  We know what happens to Bryce when protection falls apart.
