Prediction: Cam asks for trade. Smitty retires.

Neat. We will politely decline Cam's request and retire Smitty's jersey and thank him for his service.

BTW Cam isn't going anywhere. We will pay him big bucks when his contract is up and he has told JR that he wants to be a Panthers for as long as we will let him.

If things don't change Cam WILL go to New York to play for Rex Ryan.

Ryan won't be in New York by the time Cam hits the free agent market. He's got 3 years left on his rookie deal (2 after this year plus the 1 year option) plus the 3 potential years that he would be franchised. He's going to be here at least 6 more years.

Yeah....big bucks ain't enough to keep a guy that can make it anywhere. Gotta bring more than a big wallet to the table.

Agreed

We have a lot of leverage over Cam.

Under the new CBA we have an option for a fifth year and then we can franchise him in the 6th (I think).

Any player in year 3 will take the new contract unless it is a complete crapshow.

Cam will make bank here and will be a demigod. No reason to leave.

RIGHT???/

Cam has more leverage than you think....

Cam can make bank anywhere.....and could go to a better situation, better talent, better chance to win.

And if Cam ever decides to flex his muscle....it won't matter if we can tag him. What organization is going to be successful paying and playing a guy vocally not wanting to be part of it that actually has national media pull?

I know what you are saying but the leverage is we offer him the choice between.

1) Sign a long term BIG contract in 2013 and if you don't we promise

2) You will be here until 2016

Cam is making "only" $5M a year but every NFL player likes guarantees vs the possibility of injury.

I bet we sign him through 2020 for like 12M a year and he takes it.

    • I didn't move the goal posts. But anyone who follows football who wants to engage in a rational discussion can't argue that 10 7th round picks are equal to 10 1st rounders in value. The argument has always been we haven't spent as much on defense has we have on offense. Draft picks have value just like salary. We have not spent the same amount of draft pick salary cap on defense that we have on offense since drafting Bryce. It's not even close. Just the 2 1sts we used on Bryce, 2 overall 1sts have a value of 6000. That doesn’t even factor in DJ Moore or the 2 2nds. Bryce cost more than everything we've spent on defense in 6 damn years.
    • We need to hope this scenario plays our next week he fails with pressure…what that means with Evero, is beyond me
    • Woukd be a great addition You know the issues from my prespective, 2 things the Panthers must do 1. Edge or pass rushers or 2 oline or 3 oline or as Andy Reid says, when in doubt, draft a lineman it is time   That oline is troubling plus a small person at QB  they   1. Can do a lot better than mayes at center, 2. and lewis has had injuries all season. 3. Moton should not have  been resigned long term, 4. corbett is a shadow and will probably be released  5 and Christianson coming off Achilles   6 and the kicker, would be Ickey’s contract if they decide to keep him INMO rookie and contracts will be needed to offset all that
