DeAngelo Williams offended that Panthers were 'homecoming' opponent for Redskins

ANDOVER, Md. -- The Washington Redskins had their third alumni day Sunday at FedEx Field, drawing more than 150 old-timers for a pregame picture and social on the field.

It seemed innocuous enough but not in the eyes of Carolina Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams, who went on an impromptu rant about the occasion following a 21-13 Panthers victory.

Like any high school football player with a sense of pride, Williams doesn't like to be scheduled for homecoming.

"It pissed me off," said Williams, who rushed for a 30-yard touchdown. "I picked up the Gameday (program), and I'm looking at the Gameday, and it says 'homecoming,' and I'm thinking to myself, this is the National Football League. Are you serious? Homecoming? Homecoming, and it's not like you tried to hide it. You blatantly put it on the front of the Gameday, and you talk about somebody getting fired up today. I was pissed.

Interesting...

    • I don't really care as much about athleticism and arm strength.  While Murray might be better in that regard, I think Bryce has enough of both to do well in the NFL. The main reason this trade reference is silly is the money and the fact that Murray has been around a long while and hasn't proven that he can perform consistently when the game is on the line.  Bryce has shown that he can play well in the clutch (in the few opportunities he has had).
    • If Bryce can continue the level of play he showed after the benching, then there's a good shot we at least compete to win the division. Tampa is a solid team but even last year in our week division they went 10-7 and will be on their 4th OC in as many years. The Saints are a mess and are in a mist of a half rebuild half still trying to compete mode and will probably be starting a rookie QB. The Falcons are a wild card as they have a really good offense but are we really crowning Michael Penix as a franchise QB after just 3 games?  The only thing I want out of this season is for Bryce to come out and without a shadow of a doubt prove he's our franchise QB. If that happens then most of the fanbase would be happy and I believe we'd be in a good place record wise at the end of the season. Maybe falling just short of winning the division with a chance to sneak in as a wild card team.
