Do you believe suicides go to hell?

I am curious what people think. I was going to post this in the Tinderbox.

If you're not religious, do you believed in consequences or do you believe it does not matter?

I ask because I had a friend who was in the hospital and killed himself. He was dying anyways and said the financial strain would affect those around him. I remember before it happend I was talking to him and he cried (never seen him cry in 14 years) and asked me what I would do. I honestly had nothing to say to him.

That was years ago and now I am informed my time here is limited. It's weird how your views on thing like suicide change as you die, because it isn't out of hate, disrespect or done to get rid of any issues. It's just speeding up the innevitable and cutting out what could be a dragged out, expensive, painful ending. I do not fear suicide and do not see it as a compeltley bad thing.

At the point of deteroration, it's like ike pulling the plug (mercy killing), like starving yourself in a coma, like bringing your dog to the vet when he stops eating. Its different because at some point it qualifies as rational thought. Especially when even a month or two of dragging it out will hurt loved ones who are still here, financially whent the funds run out....I can can assure you all the funds will run out unless you're wealthy, VERY wealthy.

Is suicide wrong? Is it circumstantial? Do you believe it will affect someone or something in the afterlife? Or bing negative karma?

I often wondered why people condemened poeple to hell who committ suicide like it was murder but when the person dies people grieve and treat it like it was any death. This behavior leads me to believe inside, we all are ok with it and understand it, especially in certain circumstances.

The last thing I'd want to leave behind is all this debt racked up just to keep me alive a few more months but I've always believed that suicide was disrespect and there would be negative consequences. I thought this even as a non christian...and now I believe it is much more circumstantial.

Interesting topic, I have actually pondered this question before. But I am also wondering what happens to dogs, and all other animals on the planet, do they just go off into limbo? Good post though, I am interested to hear peoples thoughts

Haha, the huddle would never affect my decision enough one way or not, you guys are silly. This is more of hyppothetically questions. Though the odds are not in my favor I will be fine as long as I go to my check ups. I siad now but I've known for...over a year now. Financially I am fine as well for now, no problems at all. But things get more expensive.

Just looking for opinions, even funny ones...I'm not here to bash any opinion whatsoever, despite my post being a bit biased but I was expressing my opinion. Some poeple I have talked to in the hospital believe however that death IS a part of life, and that you should live it until the end because that is the cost. It's still a form of disrespect to them. They tell you to think about the poeple who were in shittier situations, POWs, Holcaust victums and other catastrophies. It is disrespect to those victums.

But I shutter to think about the memories of me by poeple still here being attatched to financial issues.

Suicide aside, none of us know what happens when we die... other than this physical form ceases to exist.

Some people are spiritual, and hope that our consciousness transcends to some other incarnation, be it an afterlife or some form of reincarnation.

Some people don't believe in the spiritual aspect, and think that when you're gone then that is a finality.

There are other alternative theories out there that are kind of in-between, such as multidimensional theories, matrix theories, etc.

Even some people believe that we make our own afterlife, ie. what you believe will be what you experience.

If I had to answer personally, other than admitting I don't know, I'd have to guess that my consciousness/thought energy is somehow infinite, even if I'm not entirely self-aware after I die. Living really is just being self-aware.

As far as the suicide aspect... I have mixed views. It is an entirely valid alternative in some situations, but it is also something that can have a life-changing effect on those you leave behind. In that aspect, I see it as kind of selfish. But then again, I can't live my life based on what other people expect of me.

For me, suicide would only really be an option if I was terminally ill, or if I was faced with another form of slow horrible death (burning is one of them). If it was the former, I would have to talk to my family and let them know why I was going to go that route before-hand and not just do it without warning. I actually would support assisted suicide for situations like terminal illness.

Someone here said it or I heard it somewhere else once, in so many words, before I was born there was already a time when I wasn't alive/conscious and that doesn't really have an effect on me in my daily life. So, why worry about death since it is an inevitable thing?

If I had to give advice to someone considering suicide, I'd have to ask them had they done all they wanted to do or accomplished all they wanted to accomplish in their lives... I'd ask them why suicide is a good option for them and ask if they have thought of the alternative. Really though, I guess it is a personal decision that nobody should really owe anyone an explanation for.

Sorry to hear of your health issues, but I hope you're making the best of your time here. I say that same thing for everyone.

Oh, and I think the "suicides go to hell" is just another one of those things invented by religion to scare people into submission... I wouldn't let that worry me in the least. There are a whole lot more things I would investigate about death than the possibility of eternal torment. For some people, life can seem like eternal torment.

You should read a book called " What Dreams May Come".

I think it presents a pretty good idea of what an afterlife may be like - for both those who commit suicide and those who do not.

My concern was you might be looking for someone to validate a decision. However, if I knew the end was immanent and all my continued existence would cause would be financial burden and prolonged emotional suffering for the ones I love, I would end my life so that their healing could begin. I do not ever wish to be a burden on the ones I love.

I don't blame anyone in the event of a terminal illness and I am still trying to figure out what the spiritual ramifications would be.
