Williams Hopes To Somehow Top 2008

I hate how they try to downplay the possibility of him having another great year based off of the numbers of the defenses we face this year. Basing teams on past years is ridiculous. Every year is different. Given we face tougher teams this year, I still think both Williams and Stewart will have better years then they did last year. Cant wait for the season to start!

I hear ya, and you're right, every year teams change. But with a few teams we face (definitely not all), they are fairly consistent year in and year out...

Then again, some are just over-hyped year in and year out. ;)

I agree that other teams overall rushing defense average yards surrendered doesn't necessarily portent good or bad things for us. Some teams like the Giants has pretty good numbers when we played them giving up 95 yards per game (ranked 9th) but we got 158. We all know how well we did against Tampa the second game and they were ranked as a very good rushing defense until we played them in that game.

Teams will try to take away our running or passing. It is up to the offense to establish both sides of the ball taking what they give us.

    • Bryce and Dave will determine how many games this team wins next year. It’s not on the WRs. The RBs. LBs. This is about 2 things: 1. Can Bryce continue to come up big in the few key downs that decide most games?  2. Can Canales evolve his play calling to counter punch like the big boys do. Half time adjustments.  teams that score 30+ points on the regular win more games than not. That’s on Bryce and Dave. The offense is top 10 at every position group, save for TE and QB. A baller TE is gravy but not crucial when the receivers are dudes.  The defense is the defense. It’ll be better this season, hopefully by a large margin, but Dave/Bryce is really where it’s at.
    • Normally I'd wholeheartedly agree with this. But I feel like teams figured out this offense after the Raiders game. Bryce was so inept the first 2 games that we couldn't really even run the offense. Dalton's first game showed what we had. But after that game, coverages got a lot tighter and windows were smaller. When Bryce came back in, his ability to extend plays made a big difference. It's really difficult to stop a QB that can beat/escape 1on1 tacklers. It puts a lot of pressure on the defense when you blitz. And he was completing throws in tight coverage with anticipation. Point being Bryce wasn't throwing to wide open receivers that were schemed open by the offense. Occasionally yes. But not often.
    • With the additions we've made to our roster combined with the state of the division and the conference as a whole there is no excuse for this team not to make a legitimate push for 8-9 wins. Anything less is honestly inexcusable. There will be no more free passes for being a doormat in this iteration of the league where even mediocre teams are competing for playoff spots.
